How To Set Up A Personal Hotspot On Your IPhone Or IPad
How to set up a Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad
When you don't have access to a Wi-Fi network, a Personal Hotspot enables you to share your iPhone or iPad's cellular data connection (Wi-Fi + Cellular).
Establish a Personal Hotspot
1. Select Cellular > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot in the Settings menu.
2. Click on the option next to Allow Others, so that they can join
If you do not see the Personal Hotspot option, contact your carrier to ensure that Personal Hotspot is compatible with your plan.
Connect via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB to the Personal Hotspot
A Personal Hotspot can be accessed via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB. Additionally, with iOS 13 or later, devices connected to a Personal Hotspot will remain connected even when the screen is locked, ensuring that they continue to receive notifications and messages.
Here are some pointers on how to use each method.
When a device connects to your Personal Hotspot, the status bar turns blue to indicate the number of devices that have joined. The maximum number of devices that can connect to your Personal Hotspot simultaneously varies by carrier and iPhone model. If other devices connect to your Personal Hotspot via Wi-Fi, the host device can connect to the Internet using only cellular data.
Connect using the following steps:
Wireless
On the device to which you're connecting, navigate to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot and toggle it on. Then, verify the phone's Wi-Fi password and name. Maintain this screen until your other device has been connected to the Wi-Fi network.
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on the device you wish to connect and look for your iPhone or iPad in the list. Then join the Wi-Fi network by tapping on it. Enter the password for your Personal Hotspot if prompted.
Bluetooth
To ensure that your iPhone or iPad is discoverable, navigate to Settings > Bluetooth and maintain your current position on that screen. Then, using your Mac or PC, configure a Bluetooth network connection according to the manufacturer's instructions. Discover how to use a Personal Hotspot with Bluetooth.
Personal Hotspot is compatible with Mac, PC, and other third-party devices via Bluetooth. Wi-Fi is required to connect another iOS device.
USB flash drive
Ascertain that you have the most recent version of iTunes installed on your Mac or PC. Then, using the USB cable that came with your device, connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer. If an alert appears asking you to tap "Trust This Computer?" tap Trust.

Let your family to automatically join
You can enable Family Sharing so that your family members can automatically connect to your Personal Hotspot—without needing to enter the password. What to do is as follows:
1. On your Personal Hotspot-enabled device, navigate to Settings > Personal Hotspot > Family Sharing.
2. Enable Family Sharing. If you do not see the option, learn how to enable Family Sharing on your computer.
3. Tap the name of each family member and specify whether they must request approval or automatically join your Personal Hotspot.
Disconnect electronic devices
To disconnect a device, either disable Personal Hotspot or Bluetooth on the device, or unplug the USB cable from the device.
Configure or update your Wi-Fi password
To create a Personal Hotspot, you must first create a Wi-Fi password. To modify the Wi-Fi password, navigate to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot and tap the Wi-Fi password.
Make sure your Wi-Fi password is at least eight characters in length and contains ASCII characters. Other devices will be unable to connect to your Personal Hotspot if you use non-ASCII characters. Non-ASCII characters include those from the Japanese, Russian, and Chinese languages, among others. ASCII characters include the following:
• Every letter in the English alphabet, both lowercase and uppercase
• The digits 0–9
• A couple of punctuation marks
