How To Share Location In Google Maps

How to Share Location in Google Maps.

Sharing your location in Google Maps is a useful feature when you want to let others know where you are or share your current position with friends, family, or colleagues in real-time. Here’s how to share your location in Google Maps on both Android and iPhone.

How to Share Your Location in Google Maps

Step 1: Open Google Maps

  1. Launch Google Maps on your Android phone or iPhone.
  2. Make sure you’re signed into your Google account (the one where you want to share your location from).

Step 2: Access the Location Sharing Feature

  1. Tap on the blue dot on the map (your current location).

    • Alternatively, tap the profile icon in the top right corner of the screen and then select Location Sharing.
  2. If you don’t see the Location Sharing option immediately, you can also tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner and then select Location Sharing.

Step 3: Choose Who to Share Your Location With

  1. Tap Share your real-time location.
  2. Choose the duration for which you want to share your location:
    • Share for 1 hour (default option) or choose Until you turn this off to keep sharing until you manually stop.
  3. You’ll be presented with several options to select who to share your location with:
    • Select People: You can choose specific people from your contacts who have Google accounts.
    • Copy Link: Tap to copy the link to your clipboard, which you can then send via messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp, SMS, or email).
    • Share via App: You can share your location directly through various apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, or any other app installed on your device.
You can share with specific individuals by entering their phone number or email, provided they use Google Maps and have a Google account.

Step 4: Send the Location Link or Invite

  1. After selecting a contact or app, tap Send to send the location link.
  2. The person you shared with will receive a notification or message with a link. When they open it, they can view your real-time location on the map.

Step 5: Stop Sharing Your Location (When Done)

  1. When you no longer wish to share your location, go back to Location Sharing in Google Maps.
  2. You’ll see a list of people or links you’re sharing your location with.
  3. Tap the Stop button next to the person or link you want to stop sharing with.

Additional Tips

  • Battery Use: Keep in mind that real-time location sharing uses GPS and mobile data, which may drain your phone’s battery faster.
  • Privacy: You can always control who can view your location and how long they can see it. Be sure to only share with trusted individuals or when necessary.

Conclusion

Sharing your location in Google Maps is a great way to stay connected and informed about your whereabouts. Whether you're meeting friends, ensuring a family member knows your location, or just keeping your loved ones in the loop, location sharing is quick and easy.
