How To Use Facebook Two-Factor Authentication And Mobile Code Generator

How to Use Facebook Two-Factor Authentication and Mobile Code Generator.

What Are Facebook Login Codes?

The best way to make sure that your Facebook account is secure is by enabling facebook's two-factor authentication (2FA), formerly known as login approvals. Once it is turned on, you would be required of a login or verification code each time you want to log into your Facebook account from a device that you haven't used. This feature will protect your account from hackers, even if your Facebook password is weak.

Facebook makes use of login or confirmation codes, also referred to as two-factor authentication, as an additional layer of security. 2FA would make it harder for someone to hack your Facebook account. If anyone tries to log into your account from a device that you have not previously authorized, they would need both your password and a login code.

With that fact put in place, you can also enable login alerts and have them to be sent to your email address, Facebook, or Messenger account. In your Facebook mobile application, tap on the hamburger menu, expand the Settings & Privacy, select Settings > Security and Login > Get alerts about unrecognized logins, and turn on your preferred login alerts. We highly recommend you turning on email notifications.

How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication

The two-factor authentication of Facebook requires that you use a mobile phone number or an authentication application. If you would like to use a phone number for two-factor authentication, note that you can no longer use that same phone number to reset your password.

How to Add a Phone Number to Facebook

You can add a phone number while you are setting up two-factor authentication. If you would like to make sure that you have a current phone number on record or you want to add a second one before you start the process, bellow is how to do that:

  1. Tap on the hamburger menu in the Facebook mobile application.
  2. Expand Settings & Privacy.
  3. Go over to Settings > Personal Information > Phone Number

You can add as many phone numbers as you like, and we highly recommend that you add at least two phone numbers. It is important to note that adding a number would automatically enable text notifications to the last-added number, which is something that you might want to disable.

How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication on Facebook

To enable two-factor authentication on Facebook, go over to Settings > Security and Login > Use two-factor authentication, you can now decide whether you want to use an Authentication Application or a Text Message (SMS), and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your chosen option.

2FA via Text Message (SMS): When you tap this option, all you have to do is choose the phone number you would like Facebook to use.

After you finish the setup, you can always go back and change the phone number. Each time you do that, you will have to enter a confirmation code that is sent to the new phone number.

2FA via Authentication App: When you choose to make use of a third-party authentication application, you can scan a QR code, set it up on the same device, or you can manually enter a code into the desired authentication application.

How to Set Up Code Generator

While you can set up and access most of the features that are described above from Facebook in your browser, Code Generator is a feature that is made exclusive to the Facebook mobile application. If you had the application installed all along, the Code Generator should be available already.

When you open up the Facebook mobile application and have the two-factor authentication set up, you would need a security code to complete your login. Inside the Facebook application, click on the hamburger menu to open it, scroll to the bottom, tap on Code Generator, and Activate it. That’s all there is to it.
