When the iPhone SE 3 is finally released, it's unlikely to be called that; instead, it's likely to follow the iPhone SE (2020)'s naming convention, which includes the release year in the title. However, we have no idea when the next affordable iPhone will be released.
The iPhone SE (2020) was one of the most anticipated iPhones of 2020, combining Apple's superior hardware and software in a small package at a reasonable price. So how is Apple going to top that?
Simple – incorporate some of the flagship's features into the next mid-range iPhone SE. We're hoping to see the iPhone 13 series launch with new features and technology, and that some of those features and technologies will trickle down to the iPhone SE line as well.
The iPhone SE 3 is, as the name implies, the third generation of the device, following the 2020 model and the original 2016 model. While the age gap suggests we'll have to wait four years for the iPhone SE 3, the 2020 version was so well received that we doubt we'll have to wait that long.

We expected the iPhone SE 3 to make an appearance at Apple's Spring Loaded event in April - after all, that would be a year after the iPhone SE (2020) launched - but it did not.
We're not surprised, as we've previously seen a couple of leaks and rumors indicating that there will be no iPhone SE 3 this year, possibly to give the iPhone 13 mini more time in the spotlight, which means we may have to wait a long time for the phone – if we ever get it.
If that is the case, then there may be one in 2022 at the earliest, as it is also rumored that there will be no iPhone 14 mini, which means Apple may rely on the SE line for smaller phone fans. Numerous rumors point to a 2022 release date at the moment.
Additionally, there's the iPhone SE Plus to consider. This was rumored to arrive sometime after the iPhone SE (2020), and while we haven't heard much about it recently, Ming-Chi Kuo (a well-known Apple analyst) claimed back in April 2020 that the iPhone SE Plus might not arrive until the second half of 2021.
Thus, this could arrive in place of the iPhone SE 3 – or perhaps an iPhone SE 3 and an iPhone SE 3 Plus. At this point, it's difficult to say.
There is no news regarding the price, but given that the iPhone SE (2020) starts at $399 / £419 / AU$749, the iPhone SE 3 is likely to be priced similarly – if not slightly higher.
iPhone SE 3 rumors, leaks, and news
We haven't heard much about the iPhone SE 3, but if it is, in fact, the rumored iPhone SE Plus, it will almost certainly have a larger screen than the 4.7-inch iPhone SE (2020). According to rumors, it measures between 5.5 and 6.1 inches.
Given that the iPhone SE (2020) shipped with Apple's most recent available chipset, we can assume that the iPhone SE 3 will do the same, most likely the A14, which is expected to debut with the iPhone 12 range.
This theoretically enables the iPhone SE 3 to connect to 5G networks – and indeed, one rumor suggests it may be included in Apple's 2022 lineup of 5G-capable phones, making it one of the most affordable phones of any brand to connect to next-gen networks.
The majority of rumors have focused on an iPhone SE 3 release date in late 2021 or early 2022.
