Things To Note About Apple ICloud+

Things to note about Apple iCloud+

With the release of iOS 15, Apple provided an upgrade to its iCloud paid subscription service. iCloud+ is the name of this upgrade (or iCloud Plus).

You can find out everything you need to know about iCloud+, including what it is, how much it costs, and what it means, right here.

What exactly is iCloud+?

Apple positioned iCloud+ as a service that combines "everything you love about iCloud with some fantastic new features," according to the company.

Three new premium features have been introduced with the release of iCloud+, which is included with iOS 15 as a free upgrade. iCloud+ and its features are available to all iCloud subscribers, and all iCloud+ plans can be shared between people who are members of the same Family Sharing group as you.

Aside from that, Apple isn't changing the prices of its iCloud services, which makes you wonder why the company came up with a new "iCloud+" name when it's the same price as iCloud and simply adds new features for everyone.

What does iCloud+ include?

In addition to all of the standard iCloud features, such as Photos, Backup, and the cloud-based storage service, you will also have access to additional premium features when you sign up for iCloud+.

1. Private Relay

Each day, you may access the internet through a variety of networks, including your home network and public Wi-Fi when you're out and about. Behind the scenes, network providers and websites can combine your identity with your browsing history to create detailed profiles about you that are accessible to others. To help you protect your identity and privacy online (specifically through the Safari browser), iCloud+ now includes a feature called Private Relay, which can be used in conjunction with the Safari browser.

It enables you to browse through Safari in a way that Apple describes as "even more secure and private than previously." It essentially ensures that all traffic leaving your device is encrypted - so that no one can intercept and read it - and it routes all of your requests through two separate internet relays to ensure maximum security. Even though it's a bit geeky, the end result is that no one, including Apple, will be able to tell who you are or what websites you are visiting. It accomplishes this without impairing performance as well.

In other words, Private relay is the built-in VPN service provided by Safari.

2. Hide My Email

Have you ever been concerned about disclosing your personal email address, such as when you're filling out a form on the internet?

In that case, you can use Hide My Email to distribute a one-of-a-kind, random email address that will forward messages to your personal inbox. This iCloud+ feature is already integrated into Mail, Safari, and the iCloud settings themselves. You can create as many email addresses as you need and delete them whenever you want.

3. HomeKit Secure Video

You can connect one, five, or an unlimited number of cameras (depending on your plan) to HomeKit Secure Video to keep an eye on your home, and none of the video will count against your iCloud storage limit. You get it for free as part of your subscription.

Is that all there is to it?

In terms of technology, Apple has also added features to make it easier to manage your iCloud account. If your device is lost or stolen, Apple can send security codes to your friends or family members using a feature called recovery. In addition, there is a "Digital Legacy" program that allows you to choose who will have access to your files after you pass away.

What is the cost of iCloud+?

There is no additional charge for any of the iCloud+ features that are already included in existing iCloud plans. This means that iCloud+ is priced as follows in the United Kingdom and the United States:

  • One HomeKit Secure Video camera is included in the £0.79/$0.99 per month price for 50GB of storage.
  • £2.44/$2.99 per month for 200GB of storage space with up to five HomeKit Secure Video cameras
  • £6.99/$9.99 per month for 2TB of storage space plus an unlimited number of HomeKit Secure Video cameras

When will the new iCloud+ service be available?

Customers who subscribe to iCloud will automatically be upgraded to iCloud+ when they upgrade their devices to iOS 15.
