Solar Energy Powers P&G UAE in Collaboration with Yellow Door
Procter & Gamble (P&G), a global leader in consumer goods with a portfolio of more than 80 iconic brands, has taken another bold step in its commitment to environmental sustainability by signing a significant solar lease agreement with Yellow Door Energy. Yellow Door Energy is a pioneering sustainable energy partner for businesses across the Middle East and Africa, specializing in helping organizations transition to renewable energy solutions. This partnership underscores P&G’s dedication to integrating renewable energy into its operations and supporting a greener future.
The solar lease will see the development of a state-of-the-art 500-kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar carport system at P&G’s UAE office, strategically located within the Jebel Ali Freezone Authority (JAFZA) industrial park. The innovative solar carport system will feature over 870 bifacial solar panels, leveraging cutting-edge technology to maximize energy efficiency. Designed with precision to align with P&G’s operational schedule, the project will be executed in four phases, ensuring seamless integration with the company’s day-to-day activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonali Dhawan, General Manager for P&G Gulf, emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility: “At P&G, environmental sustainability is embedded in how we do business. The solar lease with Yellow Door Energy demonstrates our commitment to sustainability by integrating solar power into our Dubai office.” This initiative represents a significant milestone in P&G’s ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and foster sustainable business practices.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held at JAFZA, marked the commencement of this transformative project. Senior representatives from both P&G and Yellow Door Energy attended the event, symbolizing a shared vision of sustainability and innovation. Once the solar carport becomes operational, it is expected to generate 813,500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity in its first year. This will lead to an estimated reduction of 323,000 kilograms of carbon emissions annually, making a meaningful contribution to P&G’s sustainability goals and supporting the UAE Energy Strategy’s ambitious targets for renewable energy adoption and decarbonization.
Jeremy Crane, Group CEO of Yellow Door Energy, highlighted the significance of this collaboration: “We are honoured to partner with P&G on this solar lease, bringing clean electricity to the heart of JAFZA and contributing to the UAE Energy Strategy. As a UAE-founded and headquartered company, Yellow Door Energy is committed to helping businesses decarbonize their operations, lower electricity costs, and become sustainability champions. With over 355 megawatts-peak (MWp) of awarded solar projects in our portfolio, we aspire to be the preferred sustainable energy partner for top corporations in the Middle East and Africa.”
Yellow Door Energy will oversee all aspects of the project as the solar developer, ensuring its success from start to finish. The company will handle financing, design, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the solar carport system throughout the lease term. This comprehensive approach ensures that P&G benefits from cutting-edge renewable energy technology without the burden of upfront investment or operational risks. The solar leasing model empowers businesses like P&G to achieve significant energy cost savings while focusing on their core operations and enjoying the environmental benefits of clean energy.
This project showcases the growing importance of renewable energy in corporate operations, particularly in regions like the Middle East, where sustainability is becoming a cornerstone of business strategy. Solar energy systems such as this carport are not only cost-effective but also demonstrate the potential for large-scale carbon reduction, making them essential for achieving global sustainability goals.
P&G’s solar lease with Yellow Door Energy reflects its broader vision of embedding sustainability across its global operations. This partnership stands as a powerful example of how private companies can collaborate with renewable energy providers to tackle climate challenges, drive operational efficiency, and contribute to national and international sustainability objectives. As the project progresses, it will serve as a beacon of innovation and environmental stewardship, reinforcing the role of businesses in leading the transition toward a sustainable future.
