Sony Unveils New Products at CES® 2025
Sony Group Corporation will showcase its vision for the future at CES® 2025, which is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 7, 2025. The company’s exhibition theme, “Creative Entertainment Vision,” highlights its long-term goals for the next decade, underscoring a future where creativity, innovation, and technology converge to spark new experiences for creators and consumers alike. At the press conference, Hiroki Totoki, President, COO, and CFO of Sony Group Corporation, introduced several groundbreaking initiatives aimed at enabling creative freedom. These included a new vehicle processing system and the latest advancements in spatial content creation. The company also presented various projects that aim to expand its intellectual property (IP), including initiatives in the fields of anime, game IP adaptations into visual media, music artist collaborations, and location-based entertainment experiences.
The exhibition aims to provide attendees with a glimpse into Sony’s future by showcasing how it plans to evolve the entertainment industry. This includes projects such as an anime series adaptation of the game “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends,” the launch of the “Crunchyroll Manga” app, and the upcoming release of “The Last of Us” season 2 drama series. In addition, the company spotlighted its partnerships with sports, highlighting the evolution of sports entertainment with guest speaker Roger Goodell, Commissioner of the US National Football League. Additionally, the display of AFEELA 1, the electric vehicle from Sony Honda Mobility, demonstrated Sony’s venture into mobility innovation, with the car set to begin accepting orders in 2025.
The booth at CES 2025 will be structured around three key phases of Sony’s “Creative Entertainment Vision”: “Creativity Unleashed,” “Boundaries Transcended,” and “Narratives Everywhere.” The exhibit will embody an artistic representation of the future of creation, one where content is born and expanded through collaborative co-creation between creators and technological platforms.
One of the major innovations being introduced at CES is the PXO AKIRA vehicle processing system, which represents a leap forward in virtual production technology. This all-in-one solution combines an advanced robotic camera crane, a custom-built motion platform, LED volume technology, and a digital twin tool to provide a revolutionary approach to filming vehicles. PXO AKIRA promises to enhance safety, reduce costs, and maximize creative freedom, enabling filmmakers to capture dynamic vehicle shots in any environment. In addition to PXO AKIRA, a 3D reconstruction tool will be showcased, allowing for the creation of immersive 3D digital backgrounds from real-world environments. This system will significantly improve the workflow for creators in film and other media, providing high-quality virtual sets and environments for a range of productions.
Another major highlight of the exhibit is XYN™, an integrated software and hardware solution designed to support the creation of spatial content. By combining Sony’s expertise in imaging, sensing, and display technology, XYN enables creators to capture and reproduce real-world objects, human motion, and backgrounds within 3D Computer Graphics (CG) production. With proprietary algorithms that enhance the efficiency and flexibility of the creative process, XYN facilitates the construction of seamless workflows across various industries, from film and gaming to virtual production and the metaverse. Attendees will be able to experience cutting-edge products and solutions related to spatial content creation, including technologies that allow creators to bring their visions to life with exceptional realism and detail.
At the CES booth, visitors will also be treated to LEGO® Horizon Adventures™, a playful expansion of the Horizon franchise created entirely out of LEGO elements. This project takes a fresh approach by integrating music from mxmtoon, who wrote and produced the theme song for the series. The teaser for the music video will be released at CES, giving fans a sneak peek into the creative process behind the innovative collaboration between Guerrilla, The LEGO Group, Pixomondo, and Sony. Visitors will also have the opportunity to play the game and watch the making-of video that highlights the creative and production journey of this cross-disciplinary project.
For anime fans, Sony will present an immersive experience based on the hugely popular series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The booth will feature a photo booth recreating the iconic poster for the movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, part of a trilogy of films set to release worldwide in 2025. This exhibit allows visitors to engage with the world of the anime through an interactive experience, capturing the essence of the beloved series.
Sony’s commitment to expanding the value of its content IP extends beyond traditional entertainment, as it explores new opportunities for location-based entertainment. At CES 2025, the company will showcase a proof-of-concept based on the highly acclaimed action-adventure game The Last of Us. This immersive entertainment experience will feature high-definition video, 3D sound, and olfactory technologies to create an engaging, multi-sensory environment for fans of the game and TV series. This is part of Sony’s broader initiative to push the boundaries of interactive, location-based entertainment, offering creators new avenues for expression and audience engagement.
