Instagram has recently clarified its stance on advertising within its Threads app, emphasizing that it is not currently testing or planning to implement ads in the near term. This statement comes after recent discoveries by developers and reverse engineers, who found references to ad technology within the app’s code. Developer Alessandro Paluzzi revealed how he managed to simulate a sponsored post, displaying a “Sponsored” label next to a user’s Threads username. Additionally, tech veteran Chris Messina uncovered a JSON file named “bcn_single_image_ad,” which suggested that a sample ad unit was in development. While these findings indicate that ad technology is being explored, Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has stressed that there are no current plans or tests involving ads on Threads.

Meta’s response reflects a broader strategy outlined by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In previous statements, Zuckerberg highlighted that Threads’ focus remains on improving user retention, scaling the platform, and adding features before considering monetization.
