NBN Co Sets September 2025 for Upcoming Higher-Tier Plan Revisions

business .

After six months of consultation with retail service providers, NBN Co is set to make significant upgrades to its top-tier residential services and introduce a new ultra-fast tier. Starting in mid-September 2025, the company will boost the speeds of its existing top three residential plans and launch a brand-new 2Gbps offering, dubbed ‘hyperfast’.

The planned changes were first floated in March 2024, with NBN Co proposing a substantial overhaul of its top residential service tiers. Specifically, the 100/20Mbps plan will be upgraded to 500/50Mbps, the 250/25Mbps plan will be raised to 750/50Mbps, and the gigabit plan (currently offering speeds between 750-1000Mbps for downloads and 50-100Mbps for uploads) will receive further improvements.

In addition to these upgrades, NBN Co is introducing a new 2Gbps service. The ‘hyperfast’ tier will feature download speeds of 2Gbps and upload speeds ranging between 100Mbps and 200Mbps, depending on whether the connection uses hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) technology or full fibre, respectively. This marks a major leap in residential internet offerings, targeting customers with increasingly demanding connectivity needs.

NBN Co’s recent enhancements, which come after extensive consultation with retail service providers, mark a significant step in the company’s commitment to offering competitive, high-speed internet solutions. These improvements reflect a broader industry shift, driven by the increasing demand for faster and more reliable connections, especially in the wake of growing digital reliance across businesses and households.

By engaging with retail providers, NBN Co has been able to tailor its services more closely to the needs of end-users, ensuring that its offerings remain relevant and competitive in an ever-evolving market. This collaborative approach not only helps NBN Co stay attuned to industry trends but also enables them to anticipate and meet customer expectations, particularly as the internet becomes an even more essential utility in both personal and professional spaces.

As the digital landscape continues to expand with the rise of remote work, cloud computing, and data-intensive applications, the demand for high-speed, reliable internet has skyrocketed. NBN Co's latest moves are clearly aimed at positioning itself as a key player in meeting these demands, providing faster speeds, lower latency, and improved service quality to accommodate modern digital needs. This ensures businesses can operate smoothly, streamlining operations while improving customer experiences, and households can enjoy uninterrupted streaming, gaming, and online activities.

Ultimately, these enhancements signal NBN Co’s strategic effort to cement its role as a leader in Australia’s broadband infrastructure, positioning the company to meet future challenges as internet usage and performance expectations continue to grow. Through innovation and active industry engagement, NBN Co is well on its way to ensuring its network is robust and future-proof, supporting the nation's digital transformation.

In addition to residential services, NBN Co is also set to introduce upgrades to its business offerings around the same time. This includes a 2Gbps business plan featuring a robust 500Mbps upload speed, supported by a service-level agreement (SLA) that promises to investigate and resolve network outages or faults within four hours. Additionally, NBN Co plans to lower the wholesale prices of its business-focused packages, including the 250/100Mbps, 500/20Mbps, and 100/400Mbps plans, as well as offering price reductions for enterprise and mid-sized corporate customers.

These changes underscore NBN Co's commitment to improving both the speed and affordability of internet services, catering to the diverse needs of residential and business customers alike. By enhancing service offerings, NBN Co aims to create a more flexible and competitive internet landscape in Australia, driving better value for consumers while supporting the growing demand for high-speed, reliable connectivity across the country. This strategic shift is poised to benefit businesses seeking scalable solutions and households requiring affordable yet robust internet options, further solidifying NBN Co's role in shaping the nation's digital future.
