Uterine Fibroids .

Find ouuterine fibroids symptoms and know the non-invasive treatments for uterine fibroids offered at the USA Fibroids Center.

What are fibroids s symptoms?

We hear more and more the word uterine fibroid. However, we see it as a very distant reality. This, with time, is changing since more and more women suffer from uterine fibroids.

Uterine fibroids, also called fibroids or myomas, are benign tumors formed in the muscle of the womb (or uterus). Fibroids are very common, many women will present them throughout their lives, and they tend to grow in reproductive age and with pregnancy, while at menopause, they tend to shrink.

Did you know uterine fibroids can be single or multiple? On the other hand, they appear according to their location in the womb as subserosal, intramural, or submucosal fibroids.

Most fibroids will not cause symptoms, but when they do, the most common uterine fibroids symptoms are:

  • Abnormal bleeding: It is the most frequent of uterine fibroids symptoms. It can appear in the form of very abundant or very long periods, and bleeding outside of menstruation can cause anaemia and affect the woman's quality of life.
  • Pelvic pressure and pain: By compression, some fibroids can cause difficulties in urination, frequent urination, constipation or abdominal pressure. Fibroids can also cause pain in the pelvis or lower back, painful periods, or pain with intercourse.
  • Affectation of fertility: Some fibroids can cause difficulties in getting pregnant, increased risk of miscarriage and pregnancy complications.
  • If you have any of the above symptoms, the USA Fibroid Center can help you; we have the best specialists to diagnose and offer treatments for uterine fibroids.

How is a fibroid diagnosed?

The diagnostic test that will confirm the presence of a uterine fibroid is through ultrasound.

Transvaginal, abdominal or combined ultrasound allows us to visualize the womb and ovaries using ultrasound, detecting fibroids, among other alterations. If we add a Doppler study to the ultrasound, we can obtain more information about the fibroid.

Sometimes, we may carry out complementary examinations such as hysterosonography, magnetic resonance imaging or hysteroscopy.

What are treatments for uterine fibroids?

How are fibroids treated? When we see no such uterine fibroids symptoms and remain stable, they will not require any treatment.

Yes, we must treat those fibroids that produce uterine fibroids symptoms or may interfere with fertility.

There are various treatments for uterine fibroids, some medicinal and others surgical, and the choice of the most appropriate will depend on factors such as the type and number of fibroids, the symptoms they cause, the age of the woman and the desire to have children.

Regarding our treatments for uterine fibroids, we use UFE (uterine fibroids embolization) that will regulate heavy bleeding, control pain, and work as a supplement to treat anaemia and controls the uterine fibroids' symptoms and reduces their size.

In some cases, surgical treatment of fibroids will be necessary. Myomectomy is the most widely used technique to remove fibroids while preserving the uterus and can be performed by hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, or laparotomy. Total removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) may be necessary in some patients. UFE is a valuable alternative. The most appropriate treatments for uterine fibroids for each woman must be assessed jointly by the specialist and the patient.

How are the treatments for uterine fibroids accessed?

The specialist can find the fibroid during a routine examination. An ultrasound is usually performed to confirm the presence of fibroid. Sound waves are used to obtain an image of the uterus to confirm the diagnosis. Other diagnostic tests are analysis, magnetic resonance, hysterosonography, hysteroscopy or hysterosalpingography. Once diagnosed, treatment will depend on age, health, symptoms, size, and number.

In some cases, surgery is considered, but only in those in which the uterine fibroids symptoms are stark.
