Apple Latest Operating System Betas Deliver Face ID With A Mask And Universal Control

Apple, FaceID.

Apple's latest operating system betas deliver Face ID with a mask and Universal Control

Apple has just released a slew of new operating system betas, including two much-anticipated new capabilities. It is now possible to unlock your phone with Face ID while wearing a mask (or, more precisely, upper-Face ID if we're being pedantic), while iPadOS and MacOS 12.3 beta 15.4 bring the long-awaited feature, Universal Control, to their respective platforms.

Due to the nature of the pandemic, the ability to use Face ID while wearing a mask has been a highly requested feature since its inception. An unknown feature was reported in April 2020 that would redirect the user to a password input screen when the phone detected a mask, and the iOS 14.5 developer beta added support for unlocking the phone using a connected Apple Watch, which was described as "a clever workaround" in February 2019.

After years of user requests, the new beta version of the operating system finally includes a feature that has long been desired by the community. Upon activation, the phone will use features in the vicinity of the eyes to determine whether or not the user is the one who has been identified as such. The reading, on the other hand, is less accurate and potentially less secure if the entire face is not included, which is why it is an opt-in service.

A beta version of Universal Control for the iPad and MacOS has been made available by the company. Despite the fact that the feature, which was announced alongside macOS 12 Monterey, had been anticipated last year, it has now been delayed by a significant amount. Despite the fact that it is currently scheduled for release in the spring, developer beta testers can gain access to it immediately.

The feature can be thought of as a complementary feature to Sidecar. Instead of converting an iPad into an additional display, Universal Control automatically shares a Mac's mouse cursor and keyboard with an iPad when it is connected to a Mac. In addition, users can pick up content on one device and drag it to another, saving space on both devices.

Additionally, iOS now supports a variety of new emojis, such as heart hands, a biting lip, and a pregnant woman or man, among other things. Beta versions will be made available starting today. There is no information available at this time about when the product will be made available to the general public.
