Field Intelligence has announced plans to expand its operations into 11 cities across Nigeria and Kenya

Field Intelligence, a healthtech startup based in Nigeria, has announced today that it is expanding to 11 cities in both Nigeria and Kenya. The 11 cities include Rivers, Edo, Kaduna, Kano, Enugu, Delta, and Kwara States in Nigeria, as well as Eldoret, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Naivasha in Kenya. In order to accelerate quality frontline healthcare across Africa, the expansion will build on Field Intelligence's existing 700+ pharmacy membership, which has served over 1.4 million patients to date. This follows a year in which the company claims to have experienced rapid growth in both sales and membership in the Shelf Life program.

The startup, which was founded in 2015, digitizes the pharmaceutical supply chain. It began as a project to address supply chain issues in Lagos, Nigeria's capital city, but co-founder and CEO Michael Moreland revealed that they soon discovered that privately owned pharmacies were experiencing the same issues.

Addressing the Supply Chain Issues in Lagos

To address this issue, Field Intelligence transitioned from being a software company to becoming a tech-enabled pharmaceutical distributor, launching Shelf Life in 2017 specifically for this purpose.

On the subject of the expansion, Moreland stated that "Shelf Life's rapid uptake across such a diverse range of African markets is a testament to its potential as a solution for pharmacies throughout the continent."

“Across the country, in cities and rural areas, in the East and the West, we have discovered Shelf Life assisting pharmacies in overcoming a common set of challenges and seizing new opportunities for growth by improving patient access. Shelf Life is quickly becoming one of the largest retail pharmacy supply chains in Africa, thanks to the ability of our technology to digitise, automate, and optimize planning, assortment, and fulfillment, all under the guidance of an incredible team.

Shelf Life is currently being used by more than 700 pharmacies in Nigeria and Kenya, according to Field Intelligence. However, the startup is aiming to expand its customer base to the more than 20,000 drugstores and pharmacies in both countries. Shelf Life intends to have at least 2000 pharmacies and drugstores using the product by 2022, and 12,000 by 2025, according to the company.

Many aspects of Africa's healthcare systems are still handled manually, which means that businesses have a mountain to climb if they want to keep up with the pace of change. Pharmacies can now digitalize their processes with the help of solutions such as Field Intelligence, allowing them to operate more efficiently.
