How To Browse Files on an Android Phone
Finding files that you've downloaded or created should take only a few moments on an Android device. Files are organized in folders, which makes it simple to locate a specific file. All Android devices running version 10 or higher come pre-installed with the Files app. Although it is free, it is one of the best Android utility apps for managing storage. Additionally, you can share files or post them to social media directly from the Files app.
Using the Android Files App
Open the Google-supplied Android Files application. Depending on your model, you can view all apps by either swiping up from the center of the home screen or tapping the "Apps" icon. Apps should be arranged alphabetically.
The Files application categorizes your files into folders such as Downloads, Images, Videos, and Music. Select the folder that is most appropriate for your application. If it is not present, try a different folder. For instance, if you downloaded an image, it is almost certainly located in the Downloads folder. If you took a photo with your Android's camera, it's likely that it's in the Images folder, whereas if you took a video, it's probably in the Videos folder.
If you installed a memory card on your device, some files, regardless of their category, may be present.
Organizing Options to Find Files
If a folder contains a large number of files, it is frequently faster to find them by using one of the sorting options. After you've opened a folder, tap the "More" icon and then "Sort By." You can then sort them alphabetically, by date saved, or by file size.
If you're going through your videos and realize one was unusually long, it should appear near the top of the list when you sort the files by size. Similarly, if you know the name of a document you've saved, organizing your files alphabetically makes it easier to locate the correct one.
Selecting, Sharing and Deleting Files on Android
If you need to quickly send a file to someone, locate it in the Files app. For a brief moment, press the file to select it (tapping activates the file). To select multiple files, tap the first file and then any subsequent files. Each selected file is indicated by a check mark. If you accidentally select the incorrect one, tap it again to deselect it.
Tap the "Share" icon at the top of the screen to share a file. There are numerous sharing options, including sending a file as a text or email attachment or sharing it via any of the installed apps, such as Facebook or Google Drive.
Although Android devices include tools for freeing up storage space, if you have critical files that you cannot afford to lose, managing your storage via the Files app makes a lot of sense. You can select a single file or an entire folder. Once you've selected them all, tap the "Trash" icon at the top of the screen to confirm the deletion.
Bear in mind that you should back up your Android device to your PC or via Google Drive. When you delete a file from your smartphone, it is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered without a backup.
