How To Discover Matching Paint Colors From An Online Photo

How to Discover Matching Paint Colors from an Online Photo.

Bringing in a physical object and having the color matched is a simple process. What if, on the other hand, you are drawn to a particular hue in an Instagram photo? Though more difficult, we will show you how to match paint colors to digital images in this tutorial.

The low-tech solution to this problem is to pull up a photo on your phone and compare it to paint chips purchased from a store or online. The possibility exists, but it is not a precise science at this point. To get a more accurate color match, we'll have to dig a little deeper into the data.

Define the Color

The first step is to identify the color you discovered in a digital image and put it into a definition. Colors in digital images are represented by "hex codes," which are six-digit numbers. "RGB" and "CMYK" are two additional color-definition methods that can be used digitally.

All of these different values do is simply instruct the display on your device's how to generate the color that you require. By determining these values, we can convert digital color to real-world paint colors and vice versa. Hexadecimal codes will be used for the purposes of this article.

Using a web browser, navigate to image-color.com after you've obtained the image containing the desired color in question. Beginning with "Browse," or pasting the image's URL into the text box, navigate to the image you want to use.

Upload an image to scan.

After you've uploaded your image, you can choose a color by clicking or tapping anywhere on it. The color will be displayed at the top of the page, along with the hex code in the "HEX" box. That code should be saved for future use.

Select a color to see the hex code.

Match the Color

We can now navigate to the Encycolorpedia website because we have the hex code in our possession. Type the hex code into the search box and hit the "Search" button.

Enter the hex code and click "Search."

Top of the page contains some background information on this particular color scheme. You can view the paint color that is the closest match by selecting "Buy Paint That Matches This Color" from the drop-down menu.

Click the buy paint button.

This website will redirect you to another website. Here, the color is very similar to a Benjamin Moore paint color called "Traditional Yellow," which is available from Benjamin Moore. If you want to look for the paint chip yourself, you can either go to the paint store and do so yourself or ask an employee to look it up for you.
