How To Add A Web Page To Google Chrome’s Reading List

The Google Chrome web browser that is on your desktop computer comes with a handy “Reading List” feature. It’s a very easy way to save things that you want to read later, and it syncs with your iPad or iPhone. Below is how you can add web pages to the list.

 

The “Reading List” button that is located on the desktop can be found at the right side of the bookmarks bar. If you don't want it, or at the moment you don't need it, you can possibly remove it.

1. How to Use the Reading List in Google Chrome

The Reading List is a concept that is somewhat similar to the bookmarks but it is intended for reading material that you get online. At the moment of this writing, it’s available in the Chrome on the desktop (Linux, Mac, and Windows) and also for iPad and iPhone. This feature isn’t available on the Android, although it may probably be eventually some day.

 

2. Add Web Pages on Chrome for Desktop

After you have opened Chrome on your computer, the first thing that you should do is to find a web page that you would like and want to read later. Once you have found one, click the star (bookmark) icon that is located on the right side of the address bar.

 

A. Click the bookmark icon

 

B. A menu with two options will appear. Select “Add to Reading List.”

That is how simple it is to add to your Reading List.

 

D. For you to actually use the Reading List, you’ll need the bookmarks bar to be visible. You can quickly achieve this by simply typing Ctrl+Shift+b on Windows or type Cmd+Shift+b on Mac, or simply by going to Settings > Appearance > Show Bookmarks Bar.

 

E. Show bookmarks bar

 

F. Now you’ll see the Reading List located on the far-right side of the Bookmarks Bar. Now click it, and you’ll see all of the articles that you saved in a list.

 

G. Open the reading list

 

H. You'll see the “Unread” pages located at the top, while the “Pages You’ve Read” are situated at the bottom. You can also see the time, how long it’s been since the pages were added and when read.

 

I. Mouse-over a page to mark it as read/unread, or to remove it from the Reading List.

 

J. Delete or mark read

 

3. Add Web Pages on Chrome for iPhone and iPad

Chrome for iPad and iPhone has two different ways to add your web pages to your Reading List. You can either get it done from Chrome or from another app.

 

A. In Chrome on your iPad or iPhone, find a page that you'll love to read and save for later, and then you tap the share icon that is in the address bar.

 

B. tap the share icon

 

C. Next, select “Read Later” from the menu.

 

D. select read later

 

That’s done! The page is now available in your Reading List.

 

The second method allows you to be able to add things to the list from outside the Chrome. 

 

A. Find a news article or you find a story that you’d like to read later in any of the app. In this case, we will make use of the Apple News. Check for the share button in the app and tap it.

 

B. tap the share icon

 

C. Next, check for “Chrome” in the app row and then select it.

 

D. select Chrome

 

E. From the Chrome menu, tap “Read Later.”

 

F. select Read Later from menu

 

G. To access the Reading List on your iPad or iPhone, firsr open Chrome and tap the three-dot menu icon at the bottom.

 

H. Select “Reading List” from the menu. You’ll discover a number that indicates there unread pages.

 

I. select Reading List

 

J. Reading List will open with “Unread” pages at the top and “Pages You’ve Read” at the bottom. Pages that are marked with a green check are those messages that are ready to read offline.
