MacBook Pro 2021, AirPods 3, and all the other major announcements at Apple's Unleashed event
Apple held another event, dubbed Unleashed, on Monday, just a few weeks after its California streaming event, which was broadcast live on Apple TV.
While the iPhone 13 and new Series 7 watches were the main focus of the California event, the Unleashed event focused on the new MacBook Pro and Airpods, among other things.
Pros of 2021 MacBook
Two different sizes of the new MacBooks are currently available: 14" and 16". A notable improvement over their predecessors is the increased performance of the new MacBooks. Because of the new M1 Pro and M1 Max processors/chips, which Apple claims are four times faster than the previous M1 chip, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are now significantly faster.
The M1 Pro is equipped with a 10-core CPU, a 16-core GPU, and up to 32GB of unified memory, among other things. The M1 Max is equipped with a 10-core processor, a 32GB graphics card, and up to 64GB of RAM.
Apple discontinued the MagSafe (quick-release connector) on its new laptops five years ago when it switched to USB-C charging. However, the MagSafe has been reintroduced with the latest MacBook Pro lineup.
While the new MacBook Pros can still be charged using the USB-C port, the upgraded MagSafe 3 plug provides significantly more capacity. In just 30 minutes, Apple claims that the MacBook Pro can be recharged to 50% of its original capacity.
The TouchBar was removed from Apple's MacBook Pro laptops for the year 2016. These are welcome news for users who have complained that it served no useful purpose for them. A revolutionary addition to Apple's laptop line, the Touch Bar allowed applications to provide touch access to their most critical functions. It was introduced in 2012.
Another distinguishing feature is a notch at the top of the display, which houses a new 1080p FaceTime HD camera, which replaces the previous 720p camera on the device. In theory, this improvement should lead to an improvement in image quality. In addition, there is a new SD card slot as well as a new HDMI port.
Beginning at $1999, the MacBook 14-inch model will be available, while the MacBook 16-inch model will be available for $2499.
Airpods 2021
Since their introduction five years ago, Apple Airpods have gone through three generations. It has been announced that the new AirPods, dubbed Airpods 3, will have a shorter stem than the previous AirPods Pro.
Another new feature for the third-generation AirPods is their IPX4 water resistance, which is the highest level available. Touch-sensitive controls for controlling music and phone calls are included in their design. The inclusion of Apple's Spatial Technology, which is currently only available in the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, improves the overall audio performance.
Additionally, the AirPods 3 have a significantly longer battery life than their predecessors. Compared to the previous generation of AirPods, which had a maximum battery life of 24 hours, the new AirPods 3 have a maximum battery life of 30 hours and support wireless charging.
The third-generation AirPods will cost $179, which is $50 more expensive than the $129 price of the second-generation AirPods but still significantly less expensive than the $249 price of the AirPods Pro.
Apple Music subscription plans have been updated, including the $5 Voice Plan, which grants users access to all of Apple Music via Siri, according to the company. The Apple Music service is also receiving new playlists that are dedicated to different moods. Aside from that, the Homepods mini series is now available in three new colors: lemon yellow, orange orange, and blue.
The new operating system for MacBooks, macOS Monterey, will be made generally available on October 25, 2021, according to Apple. Improvements to Safari's tab management, Quick Notes, and Low Power Mode will all be included in this release. The color of the cursors will also be customizable by the user, it has been announced.
