The Best New Features in Android 12

Android 12.

According to Google, Android 12 will include the "biggest substantial" design overhaul the platform has ever seen. Color and bold design elements combine in unexpected ways in Material You to create a completely new aesthetic. The Material You design language will be rolled out across all Google services over the next year. The following are the best features in Android 12.

  • A Wallpaper-Based Theme Engine
  • New System Animations
  • A Redesign of Widgets
  • A New Privacy Dashboard
  • Camera and Microphone Access Indicator
  • Digital Car Key Support
  • Hibernation of App
  • Integration of Android TV

A Wallpaper-Based Theme Engine

For Android 12, Google is working on a brand-new theme engine based on color extraction. The notification shade, lock screen, widgets, and volume controls are just a few of the locations where the operating system will automatically use the colors from your wallpaper.

New System Animations

Besides the Material You design language, Android 12 will have new system animations and motion. Performance, responsiveness, and battery life have all been improved by tweaks to the core system functions. According to Google, CPU time for system functions has been reduced by up to 22% in several cases. There has been a 15 percent drop in the use of large, energy-consuming CPU cores.

A Redesign of Widgets

With Android 12, Google is making big changes to widgets. To ensure a unified look, all widgets will include rounded corners and flat icons. Along with the new wallpaper-based theme engine, they'll also enable dynamic coloring.

Widgets can now include dynamic controls like checkboxes, radio buttons, and toggles thanks to improvements to the Widgets API. In order to make it easier to communicate with loved ones on Android 12, Google is launching a new conversation widget. Using Android 12's Quick Settings panel, you'll be able to swiftly and easily control your smart home devices, as well as use Google Pay.

A New Privacy Dashboard

Google will add a Privacy Dashboard in Android 12 this year as part of a renewed focus on privacy. A list of all the permissions set will be shown. You may get a 24-hour history of when installed apps on your smartphone have used a single permission by tapping on it. App permissions can also be revoked through the Privacy Dashboard.

Camera and Microphone Access Indicator

Following Apple's iOS 14 release, Android 12 now offers camera and microphone status bar information. So, if an app uses your device's camera or microphone, the status bar will show the corresponding icon. To protect your phone's camera and mic from malicious apps, you can enable this feature.

Digital Car Key Support

With the release of Android 12, Google plans to include support for digital auto keys. As soon as you approach the vehicle, it will automatically unlock, saving you the trouble of taking your phone out of your pocket. You'll be able to start your automobile from a distance and share the digital key with family and friends for temporary use.

Hibernation of App

If an app hasn't been used in 14 days, permissions can be revoked automatically in Android 11. To save space and resources, Android 12 will automatically hibernate apps that aren't being used. A hibernated application will not require an internet connection when it is reactivated. It can be roused from its slumber simply by launching it.

Integration of Android TV

As part of the Android 12 update, Google is adding support for the Android TV remote, making it even easier to use your Android TV. You'll be able to use the keyboard or microphone on your phone to search for a movie or show on Android TV. Android 11 is expected to include this feature later this year.
