The future of African content streaming

The future of African content streaming.

The future of African content streaming

It has been repeated innumerable times that no one can tell the African story better than Africans themselves.

In her article on why people should tell their own stories, Lisa Nichols, motivational speaker and founder of motivating the masses, writes, "No one else can dance your dance." Nobody can sing your song better than you. Nobody else has the ability to write your story for you.

Africa has allowed others to tell her story for a long period of time. While the Internet revolutionized the way stories are shared, the story for Africa has largely remained the same. The continent is either out of step with the times or lagging behind.

Take this into account. No African-focused social networking or user-generated content (UGC) platform is among the world's top ten. Nonetheless, Africa appears to be on track to have the world's largest population of people under the age of 35, approximately 1 billion people, in the next decade. According to the US Census Bureau, the continent has a diaspora population of nearly 200 million people, with 46,360,457 living in the United States of America alone in 2017.

According to The Africa-America Institute, one thing Africans in the diaspora and Africans on the continent have in common is that 65 percent of these people regard the continent as their roots, the place where their heart and passion reside. As a result, they crave anything that has the potential to reconnect them with their roots.

To satisfy this yearning, this genuine desire of Africans to tell their stories in their own words, this nostalgic yearning of Africans in the diaspora for not just a touch but some form of connection, a reunion with the Motherland, Ogelle was born. Ogelle is Africa's pioneer online video sharing resource and entertainment platform dedicated exclusively to African content.

Ogelle - Introduction

Ogelle is an all-in-one platform offering unlimited entertainment that is 100 percent African, founded by Osita Oparaugo, a University of Buckingham, UK-trained lawyer and New York Film Academy-certified filmmaker. It is a platform for user-generated content (UGC) and subscription video on demand (SVOD) with pan-African reach in terms of content diversity, creators, and language representation. Ogelle enables content creators to create, share, and monetize their work based on viewership, regardless of their country of origin, cultural heritage, or language. It provides established filmmakers and studios with a means of generating revenue from completed projects and commissioning new ones. Additionally, it serves as a resource center for the education and promotion of African cultural heritage and values, as well as for career development and robust online tutorials with a strong emphasis on English Language and STEM subjects, covering six years of post-primary education, dubbed Ogelle e-learning – education without borders for all Africans.

Ogelle has amassed 1,149,080 general users and 67,561 registered users since its April 2019 launch in Lagos, the country's busiest commercial hub. By 2025, the platform expects to reach 25 million general users and 1 million premium users, as well as $100 million in revenue. Within the next few years, it aims to become the largest aggregator of African resource and entertainment platforms. It hopes to introduce Ogelle Box-Office (market place) and Ogelle Kids once more.

As lofty as this ambition may sound, it is attainable. Africa, which has a population of more than 1.2 billion people, had a 34.4 percent internet penetration rate in 2018 and is expected to reach 35% by 2025. By 2025, the continent's internet users are expected to reach 750 million. Simultaneously, the approximately 200 million African diaspora members have an approximate 80% internet penetration rate. According to a report released in collaboration with Google by the International Finance Corporation. By 2025, Africa's internet economy has the potential to grow to $180 billion.

African Content and Investments

Additionally, interest in Africa and African content is increasing among big-tech companies. Amazon announced in April that it would invest $280 million in the opening of its first African office in South Africa, just weeks after Twitter announced its first African office in Ghana. Additionally, Microsoft is collaborating with Nigeria's government to accelerate the country's digital transformation over the next three years. That is an eloquent demonstration of Africa's untapped market potential.

With a formidable management team comprised of some of the industry's brightest minds, Ogelle has everything it takes to not only meet, but exceed its objectives.

We have assembled a team capable of directing and producing Africa's best television shows and films. A team with an unblemished track records in the industry over the last decade to two decades, according to Oparaugo, who is also the CEO of Reddot Television Network, the parent company of Ogelle.

Additionally, we have formed alliances with directors and producers from across Sub-Saharan Africa, men and women dedicated to creating original works that reflect African culture.

“We have the right media connections and grassroots access, which differentiates Ogelle in terms of creating an impact and establishing a position to dominate Africa's creative industry. It is enormous, largely untapped, and extremely lucrative due to low production and promotion costs without sacrificing quality. Ogelle's moment has arrived. Kindly accompany us on this journey”, he requested.

Indeed, the engines are steaming; the train is about to depart from the station, and now is the time to board. As Oparaugo would say to global businesses – If you are not in Africa, you are not in business yet – someday it will be heard of Ogelle that if you are not on the platform, whether as an African in Africa or the diaspora, or as a global lover of African content, you may want to reconsider your choice.
