ARM Wraps Up DAAYTA 2021 As Tope Idris Sulaimon Emerges Winner of ₦12m Grant

The finalists' pitch event for the Deji Alli Young Talent Award (DAAYTA) 2021 edition took place on April 9th, 2021, with Scrapays Technologies Limited's Tope Idris Sulaimon emerging as the winner and claiming the N12 million grant.

He expressed his joy, stating, "I am overjoyed to be the winner of DAAYTA 2021. In addition to the funding, this expands our startup's opportunities. Collaboration with all of the seasoned partners increases our chances of meeting our established milestones, which excites me even more.”

The Deji Alli Young Talent Award (DAAYTA) is a youth awards program founded by ARM in 2015 to honor the company's founding CEO, Deji Alli. The award's objective is to assist young entrepreneurs with smart and innovative ideas that positively impact people's lives and communities.

 

The Top Finalists

The top six finalists were as follows:

 

1. Tope Idris Sulaimon with his idea, Scrapays Technologies Limited, a cleantech startup that leverages technology to enable a decentralized recovery model for recyclable waste in developing nations;

 

2. Eyitayo Ogunmola, with his business idea, referred to the brain box of every premium technology skill training as the Nucleus. 

 

3. Akinse Fela Buyi of Salubata manufactures modular shoes from plastic waste; 

 

4. Udebuana Oscar Obiora of Edupoint Limited, whose solution Edupoint leverages artificial intelligence to connect students with verified local teachers who deliver one-on-one lessons in any subject or skill to assist students or learners in meeting their learning objectives.

 

5. Imodoye Ayokunbi Abioro, whose business solution Lend An Arm enables the easy transportation of blood through a virtual robot and a mobile application; and

 

6. Uche Kenneth Udekwe of Natal Cares, whose business concept aims to close the healthcare information gap that exists in underserved communities.

We believe they all possess the potential to have a lasting impact on their communities, and we can't wait to begin documenting their success stories, as we have done with previous DAAYTA winners since the program's inception in 2015.

Dr. Ndidi Nnoli-Edozien – who has devoted a significant portion of her life to bridging the gap between large businesses and entrepreneurs, thereby improving the lives of thousands of people at the bottom of the economic pyramid (BOP) in Nigeria.

Others include Kola Aina, founder of Ventures Platform and an active angel investor and mentor to startup founders; Sadiq Mohammed, Deputy Group CEO of ARM Group; Folashade Olusanya, a Partner at Jackson Etti & Edu; and Victor Asemota, Africa Partner for Alta Global Ventures, a US-based venture capital firm.
