How To Add Music and Lyrics to Stories on Instagram
Adding music to an Instagram story is a very good way to create a more entertaining story for your followers. You can share the audio and also play it along with the lyrics that will scroll with your story so that followers can sing along too.
This is all possible thanks to the agreements that was made between Facebook (Instagram’s owner) and major record labels. You can find music to add to your stories by category or name via the Instagram app itself either on the Android, iPhone, or iPad devices.
This feature is only available for personal Instagram accounts. If you’re running a business account, the amount of licensed music available to you will be much limited.
How To Create a New Instagram Story
1. To start adding music to an Instagram story, first open the Instagram app on your Android or Apple device and select the Your Story button on the top left. Or, simply select the Add icon on the top right side, then choose the Story option from the carousel at the bottom.
2. You’ll need to either create or upload the content you wish to upload a story next. This could be a video or photo you’ve taken in the app itself or content you created elsewhere. Select Story in the carousel menu at the bottom, then select the Camera button to start taking a photo (or select and hold it to start a video instead).
3. If you wish to upload a saved video or photo to upload, select the Media icon located at the bottom left, then select a suitable video or photo from your device’s camera roll.
How To Add Music To an Instagram Story
1. Once you’ve created or inserted your content to share on your Instagram story, select the Stickers icon that is in the top right menu.
2. In the Stickers search menu, select the Music option. If this feature isn’t immediately visible, use the search bar that is at the top to search for it.
3. In the Music menu, you can search for the appropriate music you want and add to your video. For instance, you could select one of the immediately suggested options in the tab or select Browse to look for music that are organized by category, music style, or mood. Alternatively, you can just make use of the search bar located at the top to search to get a specific track or an artist. Once you are satisfied and you’ve found a song you wish to add to your story, select it to customize it further.
Customizing Instagram Story Music
1. Music added to a video can only last up to 15 seconds long. To change the period music last, select the audio length option in the bottom right. Choose a new duration (between 5 and 15 seconds in length, depending on your choice) before selecting Done to confirm.
2. For you to change the position of the snippet to a different point in the song, first move the playback slider at the bottom of the menu to the right or left. When you move it left it will move the audio snippet closer to the beginning of the song, while moving it right will move it closer to the end.
3. When you are adding music to your story, it also involves adding auto-generated lyrics that appear, in sequence, as the music clip is played. To change the display of your lyrics, you select an alternative style using the options that is provided at the bottom of the menu (directly above the playback slider).
4. If you want to remove lyrics entirely, select one of the label of an artist at the end of the lyrics styles carousel instead.
5. To change the color of the lyrics you have inserted (or the color of the inserted artist label), select the color switcher tool located at the top of the menu. Selecting this will change the color, then select it repeatedly to switch between different colors.
6. Once you’ve made the changes to your music, press the "Done" button in the top right.
7. This will add the lyrics carousel or artist label to your story for you to view and to edit before you publish it. You can still move it by just selecting the lyrics carousel or artist label and you move it with your finger. If you want to change your settings, simply tap it to return to the Music menu.
8. Alternatively, drag the carousel or artist label towards the bottom of your screen and then you drop it onto the Remove icon. This will remove the music from your story immediately.
Post an Instagram Story with Music
Once you’ve added the music to your new story, the next thing you’ll need to do is publish it. Make additional changes to your story as required (such as adding stickers, text or other things), then select the "Send" button in the bottom right.
If you only want to share your story with followers added to your selected close friends list, select the Share button next to the option of Close Friends.
To post the story for all of your followers or your visitors to view, all depends on your Instagram privacy settings, select the Share button that is located next to the "Your story" option instead.
How To View an Instagram Story with Music
You can view your published story (and hear the music you’ve added) by selecting the "Your story" icon in the main Instagram menu or by selecting your display picture in the profile menu.
