How to Cheat at Wordle

How to Cheat at Wordle

Wordle is the latest social media craze to hit the internet. It's a straightforward game in which you have six guesses to match the five-letter word that appears on the screen. Five green squares indicate success, and you can start accumulating likes on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. However, there are at least three straightforward ways to cheat at Wordle—including one for anticipating Wordle's word for the upcoming days or weeks—that anyone can use to their advantage. Spoilers for the Wordle game are now available!

How to beat Wordle using WordHippo

Let's start with Wordle 213 and the solution to it, which stumped the Twitterverse. A large number of people figured out that the first three letters were P-R-O... but they all failed miserably when it came to guessing the final two letters, X and Y. It's only natural that Wordlers began by considering more common words, such as "proud" and "prowl." What language, on the other hand, would make sense?

Wordle WordHippo

Enter WordHippo, a clever little tool that allows you to choose words based on the characteristics of the words you are considering. In addition to a search for "five-letter words beginning with PRO," the link takes you to a page that includes an advanced word search that allows you to enter any combination of letters you want. By eliminating letters from your guesses, the site will present you with a smaller and smaller pool of possible words to choose from. The use of WordHippo isn't strictly a "cheat," but it's a step in the right direction.

How You Can Fake a Wordle win

You've had a particularly difficult day. A quick Wordle victory will do wonders for your self-esteem and will allow you to earn a few virtual pats on the back from your friends.

Wordle incognito mode

If you are fortunate enough to win Wordle, congratulations. If you are unsuccessful, Wordle will show you the solution at the top of your screen. Simply open Wordle in Incognito Mode on Google Chrome or InPrivate Mode on Microsoft Edge, complete the puzzle (or not), and make a note of the word that was selected as the winner. To complete the process, exit the Incognito / InPrivate mode and open Wordle in your browser with cookies enabled. You'll take first place in Wordle, keep your winning streak going, and gain the approval of your peers.

Learn how to hack Wordle and how to find the Wordle word of the day

The final and most insidious method of Wordle cheating is to use a fake name. Are you ready for the unexpected twist at the end? Wordle already has all of the answers pre-filled in.

In order to avoid having to upload a new puzzle every day, Josh Wardle, the creator of Wordle, coded in all of the solutions to the puzzle into the puzzle's code. For a longer period of time, because the Wordle puzzles are refreshed once a day, there will be potential answers to be found.

The Wordle answers, in particular, can be found in the Javascript that is included with the Wordle website, which can be downloaded here. (We were not aware of the existence of this trick until we were informed of its existence by an anonymous source.) Looking forward to seeing which Wordle answers will be available tomorrow, next week, or even months or years down the road? This is the proper way to go about it.

Wordle source code

To begin, launch Google Chrome and navigate to the Wordle website. Using the Chrome "ellipsis menu" in the upper right, navigate down to More tools>Developer tools and click "Save." There are a few Javascript files on the site, though the Google tag manager and index can be disabled if desired.

To avoid this, you should instead open the file that is beneath the index, which in this case was main.bd4cb59c.js on the page loaded. Yes, you will come across a significant amount of code, the vast majority of which is uninteresting to look at in detail. The solutions, on the other hand, are stored in plaintext in an array file. You can print your document using Chrome's "pretty print" feature, which should appear as a button at the top of the page. Alternatively, you can simply copy the entire text block and paste it into a text editor or a word processing program such as Microsoft Word and save it.

For example, this and other GitHub pages have attempted to calculate the methods for determining the next entry in the Wordle word list, such as this one. According to the source code, however, it appears that the Wordle website has already compiled a list of Wordle solutions for the upcoming few months. The quickest and most straightforward method of locating that list is to simply search for the most recent solution. (We kept track of this for a day or two before publishing, and the pattern appears to be consistent.) You can quickly find the most recent solution by pressing Ctrl+F and then moving on to the next word in the list. That is all there is to it!
