How to Disable Voice Control on Your AirPods
How to Disable Voice Control on Your AirPods
While voice control is an excellent feature, it does have some drawbacks. Some users have complained about accidentally calling people when their pods are not in their ears. They were completely unaware they were making those calls. It's all fun and games until you call your ex by accident.
Due to the fact that voice control and Siri are not synonymous, you can use either on your iOS device. If you prefer Siri or don't want to use your AirPods with voice control, here's what you can do.
Disabling AirPods' Voice Control
If you're not using Siri but are still encountering issues with unwanted actions on your phone and AirPods, you should check to ensure that your voice control is enabled. Disabling the feature is straightforward, and you can do so directly from your iOS device.
1. Open the "Settings" app on your iOS device.
2. Click on "Accessibility."
3. On Android or iOS, tap or select the "Home" button (or side button for some models .)
4. Voice Control is located in the "Press and Hold to Speak" section.
5. Select "Siri," "Voice Control," or "Off."
Notably, Siri requires an Internet connection to function properly, whereas Voice Control enables you to manage your AirPods even when you are not connected to a network.
Turning off Siri on Your AirPods
Perhaps you're having difficulty with the double-tap on your AirPods? Would you rather they played and paused music than summoned Siri? What to do is as follows.
1. Remove the AirPods from their case and pair them with your phone.
2. Select "Settings."
3. Double-click "Bluetooth."
4. Navigate to "My Devices" and locate the AirPods.
5. On the right, tap the blue I icon to access AirPods settings.
6. Scroll down to the section titled "Double-tap AirPod" and tap to open.
7. Tap a pod to reveal the following options: "Siri, Play/Pause, Next Track, Previous Track, Off."
8. Select a non-Siri option.
Keep in mind that if you select "Off," you will need to perform any of these actions using your phone. Additionally, the first generation of AirPods do not include the ability to activate Siri by saying, "Hey Siri." You must double-tap one of the pods to summon her. That is, unless the option has been disabled.
Both the AirPods 2nd generation and AirPods Pro, which were released in 2019, included updates to the voice assistant technology. Siri can be activated hands-free; all you have to do is say Hey Siri, and she will respond to your requests. You can do a variety of things with your AirPods. You can play a specific playlist, adjust the volume, skip a song, play the previous song, pause and resume music, and check the battery life of your AirPods, among other things.
Other AirPods Settings
When you open the AirPods settings, you might notice something else that needs to be adjusted.
You can rename the pods to make them more unique.
Automatic Ear Detection reroutes any sound playing on your phone directly to your AirPods the moment they are inserted into your ears. If you don't want this to happen and want to manually direct it to your AirPods, toggle the switch to Off.
Additionally, you can select which AirPod will serve as a microphone. Automatically Switch AirPods is the default setting. That is, the single pod in your ear will function as a microphone. If, on the other hand, you select Always Left or Always Right, the selected earbud will function as a microphone even if it is returned to its case.
Voice Control vs Siri
Siri and Voice Control both have their merits. Voice control is a straightforward app that works without an internet connection. That is one of the reasons for its restriction. Additionally, you must ensure that your request is written clearly so that the app can understand it.
Siri, on the other hand, is an intelligent assistant that can recognize a request even if you do not say the exact words, which is why it requires internet access to operate.
