How To Have Alexa Greet People At Your Door

How To Have Alexa Greet People at Your Door.

What Are Smart Responses?

Smart Responses are three new software-based features that are developed for the Ring app for iOS and Android. These responses would help your Ring device answer the door. This first feature is Alexa Greetings, which would let Ring and Alexa help you greet visitors.

The next is Quick Replies, which can help you play pre-recorded alerts. Both Alexa Greetings and the Quick Replies can also record messages for you. Last on the list is the Motion Warnings which audibly alerts visitors that they are being monitored whenever your Ring device detects motion.

What's Required for Smart Responses?

For Alexa Greetings, You will need a Ring Video Pro Doorbell, a Ring Protect subscription, and the Ring mobile application.

For Quick Replies, you will need a newer model of Ring Video Doorbell, and of course, the Ring mobile application. Unfortunately, Quick Replies are not made available for first-generation Ring Video Doorbell models.

For Motion Warnings, the following devices are supported: The Ring Video Doorbell Elite, The Ring Video Doorbell Pro,  Floodlight Cam, the Ring Spotlight Cam (wired/mount), and Stick Up Cam Elite.

How To Set up Alexa Greetings

Once you have downloaded the Ring application, open it. Then click on the three lines that is in the upper left-hand corner of the Ring application. Tap on Devices, select the Doorbell that you would like to set up and tap on Smart Responses. Then tap on Alexa Greetings and then click on Continue. Finally, tap the Enable Feature to turn on Alexa Greetings.

After enabling this feature, you can choose the amount of time that Alexa should wait to answer the door, and you can decide where Alexa instructs the visitors to leave packages. Alexa Greetings also allows for the recording of messages when someone rings your doorbell. You can view these messages inside the Ring application.

How To Set up Quick Replies

Unfortunately, Alexa Greetings presently only works with the Premium version of the Ring Video Doorbell. If you do not have a Ring Video Doorbell Pro, you can still have Ring deliver a pre-recorded message to your visitors using Quick Replies. Think of Quick Replies like an answering machine just for your door. All the newer model Ring Video Doorbells support this feature.

Quick Replies can also take messages that you can also watch in real-time using your Ring device's Live View feature that is built in it. This feature is enabled on all the Ring Video Doorbells and does not need a Ring Protect subscription to work. However, if you do have a Ring subscription, then you will be able to access any messages only by checking out your Event History.

To get started with Quick Replies, open up the Ring application, and tap the three lines thet is on the top left. Then tap on Devices. Select the doorbell that you would like to set up, and then tap Smart Responses followed by Quick Replies. You should see a blue Enable Autoreply button come up on the screen. Tap it, and set one five-second default message to output. Unfortunately, custom Quick Replies are not supported as at the time of this writing.

Once you have selected your reply, set your delay time anywhere from Right Away up to 20 Seconds. Finally, tap on Got It! to finish configuring this feature. Now, whenever someone presses your doorbell, Alexa would deliver your selected pre-recorded message, and the visitor can leave a message for you in response.

How To Set up Motion Warnings

If you have ever had a package stolen or you know someone who has, Motion Alerts is another feature that you will appreciate. When Motion Alerts detects motion, the feature would announce, "Warning! You are being monitored and recorded by Ring."

This audible alert is designed to make porch pirates and other would-be intruders think twice before they would misbehave. The best part of this feature is that you can set custom motion zones in the Ring application to only monitor specific areas. That way you do not have to worry about false alarms.

To set up Motion Warnings, open up the the Ring application, and navigate to your device dashboard. From there, you should see a Motion Message toggle. Slide the toggle to the right side until it turns blue. Congratulations, Motion Warnings is now active. If you would like to customize this feature, tap on the Motion Settings tile and follow the on screen prompts to set the custom motion zones.
