How to Make an Old MacBook Faster

How to Make an Old MacBook Faster.

Speeding up your MAC PC

Every computer would start to show its age over time. You would very likely know the signs of an outdated Mac PC: you can make a sandwich in the time it takes to boot up, it would not support a recent version of macOS, and modern resource-intensive software would struggle to run on it.

But you might not have to get a new computer just yet. Mac devices hold their value for a reason, and there are several steps that you can take to get some more life out of an old MacBook or old iMac.

We would show you how to make your old Mac pc run faster and freshen it up.

1. Upgrade to an SSD

The best upgrade that you can make to an old Mac is by replacing its old mechanical hard drive with an SSD. This is a very simple procedure that you can carry out on older Macs that do not have the storage drive soldered to their logic board.

Unlike older pc drives, SSDs do not have any internal moving parts. Their speed improvements would boost performance across the PC. Whether you are just booting your Mac, opening up applications, or moving files, you will feel the benefits of an SSD.

2. Add More RAM to Your System

While an SSD improves the overall performance of your mac, having more RAM would mean that you can run more programs at once without any slowdown.

Like with the SSD, you will also need to check the specifics for your Mac model. You can simply go to the top-left Apple menu > About this Mac to see your PC model and how much RAM you have currently in your system. After this, go to pc upgrades stores around you to get the RAM

3. Uninstall Old Apps

If you have an old Mac PC, you would have probably got some old programs sitting around that you never make use of. To make your Mac PC faster and save you storage space, it is usually a good idea to identify these apps and get rid of them.

You do not have to uninstall every application on your system, of course. But you probably would have lots of candidates up for removal.

4. Use Lighter Apps

Once you have removed the software that you no longer make use of, it is smart to look at the software that you do use. While there are lots of great applications for macOS, there are also some that we recommend you avoid. This goes double if you’re using currently using an old MacBook or an iMac PC.

For instance, you should stay away from using Chrome on your Mac due to chrome very noticeable heavy battery usage, which is a major drag on system performance, and poor integration with the rest of the Operating System. Safari provides a much faster experience that is both power and resource-efficient;

Instead of Photoshop, could you get by with a different Mac photo editing application until you are able to upgrade your PC?

To identify more applications that use a lot of our PC resources, open up the Activity Monitor by searching for it with Spotlight (Cmd + Space). Look at the Energy tab, which would show you how much battery life your applications make use of. You should also pay attention to the CPU and Memory lists to see which of them consume the most resources.

5. Reinstall macOS

For many Windows users, reinstalling their OS once in a while to fix some problems and clean up clutter is a common thing. While Mac users do not often do this, one reason they might need to do that is by speeding up an old, slow Mac.

If you are looking for a fresh start on your machine, upgrading the hardware as stated above, joined together with a fresh installation of your macOS, is a great option. When you reinstall macOS, you do not have to delete all your personal data unless you want to.

In case you want a completely fresh start, ensure that you back up with Time Machine or another backup solution first.
