Lumos Nigeria wins the Sabre 2021, Africa’s biggest PR Award
Lumos, Africa's leading solar home system provider, in collaboration with Modion Communications, a fast-growing public relations firm in Africa, won the Sabre Award for 2021 for its social PR campaign in February 2020 supporting indigent schoolgirl Fathia Dele Rasheed from Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria. The African Sabre Award is the continent's highest honor for public relations and corporate social responsibility excellence.
Lumos Nigeria tracked Dele as part of the campaign after a photo of her doing her homework at night with the illumination from an ATM facility surfaced on social media. Within 48 hours of the social media reveal, the company installed a free Solar Home System (SHS) in Dele's home, providing her and her family with constant access to electricity via Lumos' SHS. The family joins a network of over 100,000 households and small businesses already connected to Lumos in Nigeria.
The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) intervention campaign dubbed 'Touching Lives Through A Determined School Child – Dele Fathia' was named Africa's best social campaign by the Sabre Awards jury, beating out other top nominees from leading brands and companies in Kenya, Mauritius, and Uganda.

Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo, CEO of Lumos Nigeria, commented on the recognition, saying, "When we saw Dele Fathia's desire and determination to learn despite the difficulties and limitations of power supply, we determined that it was critical for us to act by providing our simple-to-install solar home system, allowing her and her family to enjoy the limitless possibilities that come with it."
“We are delighted to see that the campaign has rekindled interest in solar energy as an affordable alternative to Nigeria's perennial power supply deficit. We are pleased that this solution has gained widespread acceptance, with the Nigerian government committing to providing 5 million Solar Home Systems to 25 million households as part of the country's quick-win strategy to expand access to electricity.
“We believe that everyone has a right to a higher quality of life, which can be achieved through access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy. Lumos' commitment to powering one home, one business, and one community at a time remains unwavering. It's also gratifying to see that we've inspired other ecosystem players to offer similar initiatives to impoverished families in communities where grid power is either unavailable or insufficient,” she added.
Lumos, in collaboration with All-On, installed solar-powered systems in isolation centers across the country in 2020, as well as solar home systems in over 147 primary health centers throughout Nigeria. Additionally, it installed solar systems at Primary Health Centers in 20 Local Government Areas throughout Lagos State to assist in improving the quality of healthcare delivered to grassroots communities.
