MTN has recently appointed Adia Sowho as the company's first female CMO

MTN has announced the appointment of Adia Sowho, interim CEO of Thrive Agric, as the first female chief marketing officer for the company (CMO). The company celebrated their 20th anniversary in Nigeria by making the announcement.

“MTN Nigeria announced today that the appointment of two Nigerians to two senior positions previously held by expatriates was made to ‘localize its management team.'”

Previously, the board of directors appointed Adia as Thrive Agric's interim CEO after the company was accused of defaulting on matured investments. To make way for new member, Adia Opara, who joined as Chief Operations Officer (COO), Uka Eje left and joined as the Chief Operations Officer (COO).

After taking office, the startup paid back all of the money that had been returned to funders by its platform. After all the trials it had to go through in the previous year, this has proven to be a big comeback.

Prior to meeting Thrive Agric in San Francisco, Adia Sowho was the VP of Growth at Mines.io in San Francisco, CA. Joining the team was an opportunity for her to help out Migo by working as the Managing Director of the company's Nigerian office.

In addition to working for Etisalat Nigeria for over seven years, she has also held a number of positions, including the position of Head, Strategy, and Director of Digital Media, and Head of Digital Business.

Other Working Experiences

Prior to that, she held various positions at Deloitte Consulting, including manager, for about two years, and had worked as an RF engineer for US Cellular for about seven years.

Adia holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration with majors in Strategy, Analytical Consulting, Strategic Marketing, and Entrepreneurship from the Kellogg School of Management in the United Kingdom.

With the appointment of Shoyinka Shodunke as the Chief Information Officer, MTN Nigeria also announced that it had hired Shoyinka Shodunke as the Chief Information Officer (CIO). Shoyinka has been doing these kinds of things for more than 20 years, and has demonstrated expertise in them.

He joined MTN Nigeria in 2001, where he remained until February 2014. The postpaid credit and payment management process designed and implemented by him won the CIO award for excellence in Nigeria.

He was appointed MTN Zambia's CIO in 2008. In 2011, he became the General Manager of MTN Uganda. He came back to MTN Nigeria in 2012 as the head of IT Service Delivery and held the title of Acting CIO until his retirement in 2016. He was hired as the country's first Chief Information Officer and then as the country's first Chief Information Technology Officer in 2016 when he joined MTN Cameroon.

Shoyinka Shodunke is a doctoral graduate in Mathematics with a degree in Operations Research and Statistics from the Federal University of Technology Yola, Nigeria, and an MBA graduate from the University of Northampton, UK.
