Introducing Bard, Google’s Answer to ChatGPT

Google has upstaged ChatGPT with Bard, another artificial intelligence (AI) chat tool. Speculation is growing that ChatGPT could replace search engines. Google had no choice but to respond sooner or later.

The answer came in the form of Bard, Google's take on an AI-powered chat engine that rivals ChatGPT in every way.

Yet, Google did not stop there.

The search engine giant has promised to incorporate AI technology deeper into the search experience. The new tool would have a significant impact on SEO.

Google Introduces Bard amid ChatgPT Mania

Google has responded to ChatGPT's early run for 2023's biggest tech trend. It has revealed its answer to OpenAI's intelligent chat system. On Monday, February 6th, Sundar Pichai, Google, and Alphabet SEO announced the release of Bard on The Keyword blog.

Bard is a research project that uses Google's LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) technology. Bard can be boost creativity and curiosity. It will help in explaining discoveries from N's James Webb Space Telescope to a nine-year-old.

Bard is intended to perform the same function as ChatGPT. The primary distinction at this point is the data sources employed by the two technologies.

One implication is that ChatGPT's database contains information only relevant until some point in 2021. This makes it untrustworthy for anything requiring current information.

This is not a problem for Bard, thanks to Google's vast access to the most up-to-date information. Despite this advantage over ChatGPT, Google's competitor appears to be winning the first round of this AI battle.

An initial Bard impression

On the day Pichai unveiled Bard to the world, Google hoped its response to ChatGPT would garner a lot of interest. The good news is that it is receiving a lot of press coverage, albeit not for the reasons Google had hoped.

Google's Bard announcement reduced parent company Alphabet's market value by $120 billion. It is around 10%, of the value of the tech giant.

We return to Pichai's example questions for Bard in this regard. In the introductory speech, he explained recent discoveries from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope to a nine-year-old.

Unfortunately, the Very Large Telescope of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) captured the first images of a planet outside of our solar system in 2004. It was a good 17 years before the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) was launched.

To be fair, ChatGPT has generated a lot of false information lately. None of which has been as widespread as Bard's publication.

It caused a significant loss in market value for Google's parent company. The error highlights a significant drawback of AI technology. It has further increased the risks of using it without the proper verification procedures.

Google is bringing more Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. For the time Bard, Google's latest AI-powered language model, may be getting all the attention right now, but it's not the only AI update coming to Google Search.

Microsoft unveiled a suite of AI updates for its search engine last week. Now, of all things, Google is scrambling to catch up with Bing.

The next day, Google made an announcement, promising to incorporate more AI technology into the search experience. It will help people find the information they're looking for.

Google Search is still primarily a search engine even though ChatGPT and Bard are tasked with creating poetry. Its main function is to link users to information on other websites.

Google seems to be producing summary answers to difficult queries. It will give users an overview of a few of the various viewpoints.

Google claims that this will be especially useful for queries with many possible answers. None of which are correct or incorrect.

What impact will AI search features have on SEO?

Google's new AI features could save users from having to visit many pages to get a complete answer to their questions. This could result in a loss of traffic while increasing the volume of zero-click searches for website owners and SEOs.

We'll have to wait until these features are available before we can analyze the data and make any serious predictions. Assume users receive the following AI response when asked whether guitar or piano is more difficult to learn.

This is common in systems such as ChatGPT and, presumably, Bard.

Rounded responses that combine information from many sources without providing specific advice. Some people say X, while others say Y, and while knowing this is useful, it doesn't answer the question.

If this is the future of search, brands must understand the nuances of queries. For example, beginner guitar vs. beginner piano. They have to become more relevant than ever. Besides, it needs to provide a depth of information and advice that AI cannot.

Bard utilizes online data, whereas ChatGPT has access to data through 2021. The GPT-3 language model, which is used by ChatGPT, was trained using online text written by people.

This language model is used by ChatGPT to create user query responses. To get the most out of both technologies, you need a strong internet connection that offers uninterrupted internet service.
