How to Add and Use Widgets in iPadOS 15
When Apple introduced the ability to add widgets to the iPhone's home screen last year, everyone was taken aback. The reason for this is that the same capability was not added to the iPad, which has a larger screen than the iPhone. Apple, fortunately, addressed this issue with the release of iPadOS 15. Widgets can now be placed anywhere on the iPad's home screen. This means that widgets can now coexist peacefully on the home screen with the apps. So how does one go about adding, using, and customizing widgets in iPadOS 15? This post contains the solution.
How to Use Widgets on the Home Screen of the iPad
Widgets are convenient boxes that provide users with concise information at a glance without requiring them to open the associated app. By tapping on the widget, the full version of the app will open.
Widgets were previously restricted to the Today View in previous versions of iPadOS. While it was possible to add Today View to the home screen, this was not the optimal way to add widgets to the home screen. However, widgets can now be dragged and dropped directly onto the home screen. Additionally, widgets can be accessed from the Today View.
Also, iPadOS 15 introduces new widgets for the App Store, Game Center, Mail, Contacts, and Find my device.
How to Add Widgets to the Home Screen of an iPad
To begin, install iPadOS 15 on your iPad. If you are running iOS 14, you will be unable to add widgets to the iPad's home screen. To view your iPad's software version, navigate to Settings > General > About. Verify the version number next to the Software. It should be at least 15.0.
After confirming the iPadOS version, navigate to your iPad's home screen. Hold any empty space on the screen with your finger until the icons begin to shake. At the top, tap the Add (+) icon.
The widget selection panel will appear, displaying the available widgets. Locate the widget that you wish to add to the home screen of your iPad. You can quickly locate the widget by using the search bar at the top. Certain widgets will come in a variety of sizes and types. Swipe through the available widgets to find the one you want. Once you've located the appropriate widget, click the Add widget button. Alternatively, you can simply drag and drop the widget onto your home screen. This allows you to add multiple widgets without having to repeat the process.
Your home screen will be updated with the widget. You can reposition it as shown next.
How to Rearrange Widgets on the Home Screen of the iPad
Once a widget is added to the iPad's home screen, it can be repositioned within the same page or on a different page.
To do so, simply tap and hold the widget you wish to move. After that, drag the widget to its new location. Bring it closer to the edge to slide it over to the next page. As you can see in the following screenshot, I've moved the Battery widget from its default position in the previous screenshot.
Customizing iPad Widgets
Certain widgets, including Apple Notes and Weather, can be customized directly from the home screen. Additionally, you can customize the type of data displayed in the widget. For instance, you can modify the Weather widget's location.
Touch and hold a widget to customize it. From the pop-up menu, select Edit Widget. Then, using the available options, customize the widget.
How to Remove a Widget from the iPad's Home Screen
There are two methods for removing a widget from the iPad's home screen. To begin, hold the widget in your hand until a menu appears. From the menu, select Remove widget.
Alternatively, hold down a blank space on your iPad until the icons and widgets begin to wiggle. To delete the widget, tap on the remove (–) icon. After removing a widget from the home screen, you can re-add it.
