How To Disable Notifications For The Shortcuts App On Your iPhone

The Shortcuts app is the hub of automation on your iPhone, but it also allows to sends lot of notifications. If you want to disable notifications for Shortcuts it is not straightforward, and you'll see how to get that done.

Disabling The Notifications From The Shortcuts App On iPhone

To disable Shortcuts notifications, you’ll need to make sure that you have received at least one notification from the app recently. You can’t simply just disable all notifications from the Shortcuts app as it’s not an option included in the Settings app. If a notification hasn’t appeared recently, just try creating and running any automation on your iPhone and you’ll get a notification.

1. Next, open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap “Screen Time.”

2. Tap Screen Time

3. Select “See All Activity.”

4. Tap See All Activity

5. Scroll down to the Notifications section and tap the “Show More" button. Make sure that Shortcuts shows up among the list of apps here.

6. Tap Show More

7. At the top, you will see a section written “This Week.” Tap the left arrow icon found in the top-left corner. This will change the section name to “Last Week.”

8. Tap the left arrow

9. Now tap the right arrow icon to bring it back to “This Week.” You need to do this because sometimes for you tapping the Shortcuts option won’t do anything. Going back to the previous week and returning to the present in Screen Time settings will fix this issue.

10. Tap the right arrow

11. Choose the “Shortcuts” option.

12. Tap Shortcuts

13. Toggle off the switch button next and click “Allow Notifications” to stop the alerts for Shortcuts.

14. Disable Allow Notifications

15. This will get rid of all the notifications for automations on your iPhone. You will still see temporary banner notifications (which do not show up in the Notification Center) for your Siri Shortcuts. This means that you will be able to see the progress bars and other prompts for shortcuts as usual.

Disable The Custom App Icons Notifications On iPhone

You’ll notice a temporary notification whenever you launch an app with a custom app icon (which is essentially a bookmark for an app on your home screen) on your iPhone. It is possible to get rid of this by making use of an automation.

The caveat is that you’ll need to create a new automation for each bookmark that you have. If your iPhone is using a heavily modified Home Screen that comes with a lot of custom app icons, then you’ll find this task quite cumbersome. Since we’re committed to this task, we’re going to show you how to get rid of app launch notifications for custom app icons.

1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone and choose the “Automation” tab at the bottom of the screen.

2. Tap Automation

3. Tap the “+” icon in the top-right corner.

4. Tap Plus icon

5. Select “Create Personal Automation.”

6. Tap Create Personal Automation

7. Scroll down and hit “App.

8. Tap App

9. Now tap “Choose” and select any app for which you’ve saved a bookmark with a custom icon. In our case, we selected Mail.

10. Select Mail

11. Select “Done.

12. Tap Done

13. Make sure that “Is Opened” is selected and then hit “Next.”

14. Tap Is Opened

15. Select “Add Action.

16. Tap Add Action

17. You can now choose any action that you like. Ideally, it is advice able that you should choose something that doesn’t make any changes in the app because the goal is just to stop the banner notification from showing up. So you should select “Text.”

18. Tap Text

19. Tap the “Next” button.

20. Tap Next

21. Make sure you’ve disabled “Ask Before Running.”

22. Disable Ask Before Running

23. Hit “Done.”

24. You can now tap the custom app icon and the banner notification will not appear. If it does, force quit the app you selected and the Shortcuts app. Then hit the custom app icon again and you’ll get the desired result.

Now that you’ve disabled the notification from the Shortcuts app, you can check out how to use Shortcuts on the Apple Watch.
