How To Remove The Empty Lines That Shows From A Word Document

The Microsoft Word or also called the MS Word is a graphical word processing program that allows users to type with. The MS word is made by the computer company called the Microsoft. Its main purpose is to give users the free will to type and save their documents. Similarly to that of the other word processors, it has great helpful tools to make a very good documents.

Removing the extra blank lines from a Microsoft Word document can be somewhat tedious. Luckily, there is a feature that is built into Word that can remove all the empty lines at once. Below is a process to carry this out.

How The Blank Lines Work in Microsoft Word

The Microsoft Word adds a hidden tag (that is called a “paragraph tag”) to the end of each line anytime you hit Enter. You can view these tags in your document by just tapping the paragraph icon (which is looking like a backward “P” with two lines) in the “Home” tab of the Microsoft Word.

Using the “Find and Replace” in Microsoft Word, you can replace those double paragraph tags with just a single tag. That will remove the extra empty lines from your document.

How To Delete Extra Blank Lines in Your Microsoft Word Document

1. To start removing the empty lines, first open your document with the Microsoft Word app. Tap “Home” in the menu and then choose the “Replace” on the right side of the screen.

2. Now tap "Replace" in the Home tab of your Microsoft Word window, Then the “Find and Replace” window will open. Click on the “Find What” box and then you type this:

^p^p

3. Each of the “^p” is a special code that stands for the paragraph tag. We are going to replace the instances of two paragraph tags in a row with just a single paragraph tag. In the “Replace With” box, you can then type this:

^p

4. Then you click on “Replace All” located at the bottom of the window. When you have tapped on "Replace All" in Word's "Find and Replace" window. After you have click on it, all the blank lines on the word page will be removed from your document. When you see the confirmation pop up on your screen, tap the “OK” button.

If after all this process you still see any blank lines, that is because there were more than two consecutive blank lines in place and not just one. In this case, tap the “Replace All” in the “Find and Replace” window again until all of the extra lines are removed totally (or you can just experiment with the number of “^p” codes that you find and then replace until your needs are completely met).

When you are all done with this, close the “Find and Replace” window. If you ever get angry with the horizontal lines appearing automatically in the Word when you are typing certain characters, you can also replace those, too.
