How You Can Set Up Your Two-Factor Authentication On eBay

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a wonderful security tool, and it is always recommended. Most of the apps have made it pretty easy to turn on 2FA, and also the eBay is not an exception. Here is how you can enable it and make yourself safer.

You can set up 2FA in either the eBay desktop website or the eBay mobile app for your Android and your iPhone.

One of the things that made difference with the eBay’s 2FA is that, if you have set it up on the mobile app, then you will have to use the eBay app for the verification when you sign in to the website. If you are going to set up SMS verification, you will need to set up 2FA on eBay’s website rather than doing the settings on the mobile app.

It is not unknown for services to use app-based logins that is within their own app, but it’s unusual that there will not be an option to use an authenticator app like that of the "Authy" (a preferred authenticator app), Microsoft Authenticator, or Google Authenticator. Still, that’s no reason not to turn the 2FA on, as it’s by far the most effective way to stop an unauthorized access to an online service.

How To Set up 2FA On The eBay Mobile App

1. To start with, you have to first open the eBay app on your tablet or smartphone, then select the hamburger menu icon that is found in the top-left corner.

1. When you navigate this screen, you’ll automatically be taken to a login page for you to either use your fingerprint or the standard login page. Log in using any of the ways that seems appropriate for you, choose your verification method of email address or phone, and then you tap “Verify.”

Note: The choice of phone number and email address, and the "Verify" button

2. Depending on which option you want to chose, eBay will either send you an email or a text message containing a six-digit code. Enter the security code and then you select “Verify” to complete the process.

3. You'll see a success message displayed on-screen.

4. The success message after setting up 2FA.

5. From now on, when you sign in to the website of eBay, you will recieve a notification on your eBay app. Tap “Approve” to enable an access to the website.

The eBay mobile app is an easier way to turn on 2FA, but whether you are going through the app or going through the website, turning on two-factor authentication is the best way for you to keep your account safe.
