How To Use Your IPhone As A Flashlight

If you find yourself in a situation where you require additional light, the flash on your iPhone's camera can be used as a flashlight. The features of this program are far more extensive than you might expect, so here's how to make use of them.

Turn on the flashlight directly from the Lock Screen

On iPhone X models, you can access the flashlight directly from the lock screen if you're in a tight spot and need to get something done quickly. Unsurprisingly, there is a small icon that looks like a flashlight in the lower left corner of the screen.

In order to activate it, you must hard press the icon on the X/XS/XS Max or hold the icon for approximately half a second on the XR in order for it to be recognized (it turns on when you let go). This prevents the flashlight from accidentally turning on while in your pocket or if you accidentally hit the icon while performing another task while the flashlight is turned on.

To turn it off, simply perform the previous action again and again.

Activate the Flashlight from the Control Center

Start the flashlight from the Control Center if you want more precise control over the flashlight's brightness. Use the same procedure regardless of whether you're working with the iPhone X or an older device with a physical home button.

To begin, swipe upward from the bottom of the screen on iPhones with a home button, or downward from the clock on iPhone X models, to reveal the Control Center.

To instantly turn on the flashlight once you've arrived, simply tap on the flashlight icon located in the lower left corner of the screen.

You can, however, adjust the brightness of the display from this location, which is quite convenient. On iPhones with 3D Touch, hold down the flashlight icon for a long period of time to activate Haptic Touch; on the iPhone XR, simply hold down the flashlight icon. This brings up the brightness slider, which allows you to adjust the intensity of the light.
