Lenovo Maintains Its Position As The Largest PC Shipping Vendor, Despite 3% Drop In Q4 Market Share

Lenovo, Laptop.

Lenovo maintains its position as the largest PC shipping vendor, despite 3% drop in Q4 market share

This year, Lenovo was the most prolific shipper, sending 82.1 million products to customers, a 13.1 percent increase over the previous year's figures.

Manufacturers such as Dell, HP, Apple, and Lenovo continue to experience severe chip shortages, despite the fact that the impact of the coronavirus pandemic-related disruptions on the technology industry has lessened significantly.

As a result, the manufacturing of modern hardware items has slowed, as has global shipping as a result of the slowdown.

PC manufacturers have continued to be among those who have been most negatively impacted. But as normalcy has begun to return, a major increase in both manufacturing volume and selling price has begun to appear as a result.

During the fourth quarter of 2021, global PC shipment volume reached 91.7 million units, marking the second consecutive year that sales volume in the fourth quarter of 2021 above 90 million units.

According to Canalys, worldwide desktop, laptop, and workstation shipments increased by 1 percent year over year in the fourth quarter of 2020, reaching 92 million units from 91 million in the previous quarter.

Following an impressive growth in Q4 shipment volume, the overall volume of PCs shipped in 2021 continued to grow, hitting 341 million units in the last quarter of the year. This was a 15% increase over the amount recorded in 2021, a 27% increase over the volume recorded in 2019, and the highest total recorded since 2012.

Because of this upward tendency, the industry experienced significant revenue growth in the fourth quarter, with Q4 exports totaling $70 billion, an increase of 11 percent from the previous year through Q4 2020.

Additionally, the industry's trajectory has flipped considerably, with total sales for the year exceeding the $250 billion record established in 2021, an increase of 15% from the previous year's $220 billion total sales.

The pandemic induced growth

Since the outbreak began in 2020, the importance of personal computers has grown, as indicated by the 13 percent compound annual growth rate from 2019 to 2020 during a two-year period.

Consumers continue to prefer notebooks and mobile workstations, with 275 million units expected to be shipped in 2021, representing a 16 percent increase over the same year the prior year.

Despite the fact that desktops and desktop workstations continue to trail behind mobile workstation units in terms of shipment volume, the total number of units shipped climbed by 7% to reach 66 million units.

According to the research conducted in 2021, the enormous increase in PC adoption and usage rates bodes well for the future of computer education. Both young students and senior family members are increasingly adopting personal computers, and owning two or more computers per person is becoming increasingly common in industrialized countries, according to the International Telecommunications Union.

Lenovo’s sustained dominace

Lenovo, despite a 3 percent year-on-year decline in the fourth quarter of 2021, maintained its dominance in the worldwide PC market. However, with 21.7 million units sold in 2021, the corporation had the largest unit sales in the industry, despite having a market share of 24 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020, down from 26 percent in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Moreover, Lenovo was the year's largest shipper, sending 82.1 million products, representing a 13.1 percent increase over the previous year's figures.

While fantastic products such as the HP Elite Folio and Elite Dragonfly Max will be available to consumers in 2021, HP will remain in second place on the global PC shipping table with a market share of 20.5 percent, according to Gartner.

The ongoing strength of Dell's commercial/premium product strategy helped the company raise revenue by 15 percent year over year in the third quarter. However, Dell ended the quarter with an 18.7 percent market share, down from the previous year.

Apple came in fourth place, with a 9.0 percent quarterly gain and a 28.3 percent year-over-year increase, making it the best-performing vendor among the top five in terms of revenue growth. Shipments were 7.8 million units in the fourth quarter of 2018 and 29.0 million units in 2021, according to the business.

Acer rounded out the top five for both the fourth quarter and the year, shipping 6.6 million devices in the fourth quarter and 24.4 million in 2021, to complete the top five.

Reflection

In contrast to many who believe that 2021 will be recognized as the year of digital transformation, many others predict that the year 2022 will be regarded as the year of digital acceleration. Demand for technology has increased dramatically in the last two years, resulting in supply chain disruptions that have affected not only the availability of computers, but also cellphones, vehicles, and server systems.
