Oyoyo: Fashion-forward App launches in Nigeria - Africa
A Newly Launched Game-changing App is Poised to Transform Nigeria's Fashion Industry.
Oyoyo is a fashion technology platform developed by Catwalk Creatives Limited, a sister company of Lassod Consulting. It will connect Nigerian designers, tailors, and (Aso Ofi) weavers with a nationwide customer base.
The technologically advanced app, designed and built by Nigerian technology engineers, is a digital ecosystem and marketplace that enables artisan tailors, weavers, and fashion designers to create online profiles and connect with customers nationwide and worldwide. Each profile enables the designer to create seasonal or style-specific "look books," and promote their specialties, skills, and signature designs.
Using technology to capture the history of garments designed and manufactured by individual fashion designers and weavers and cataloging them in an accessible format, the app builds on the heritage of Nigeria's fashion and traditional textile industries. The creation of this resource enables easy reordering and provides a reference point for customers.
Traditionally, fashion artisans have grown their businesses through word of mouth and traveling to clients' homes to discuss their requirements and obtain their measurements. By expanding the market, removing barriers to growth, establishing a strong online presence, and expanding their commercial opportunities, the app enhances the traditional tailoring operating model.
Oyoyo Distinguishing Features
One of Oyoyo's most distinguishing features is the intuitive "measurement management" function, enabling fashion designers to take, store, and convert individual measurements into the desired format. By maintaining this order history, the tailor and client maintain greater transparency, which improves overall productivity and quality.
Clients, or what the app refers to as "Oyoyo fashionistas," can search for, like, comment on, and follow individual artisans and designers, as well as connect with them and utilize their services.
Lanre Sanni, Executive Chair, stated at the launch, “This is a momentous occasion for Catwalk Creatives and Lassod, as Oyoyo is our first product to launch in Nigeria. I'm overjoyed that an idea I had a few years ago is finally coming to fruition. Oyoyo will showcase local talent on both the national and international stage by utilizing visual technology in an extremely accessible manner as a digital marketplace.”
Mr.. Sanni continued, "We are supported by a leadership team based in Nigeria and the United Kingdom."
“With the majority of development occurring over the last 12 months, the pandemic has demonstrated that despite the teams' geographical separation, we all share a common goal of success. Oyoyo will have a significant impact on the Nigerian fashion industry, opening up previously unattainable opportunities.”
Along with developing the core team, the company recently embarked on a recruitment drive to establish a digital marketing and business development team. The company is eager to expand this further and offers a robust internship program to nurture regional talent.
Lanre Sanni elaborated, “It is our mission to develop sustainable commercial opportunities in Nigeria and throughout the African continent through recruitment and technical innovation. I am aware that there is an abundance of talent, and we have ambitious plans to capitalize on it.”
The Oyoyo app is available for Android and offersoffers a free subscription to designers, tailors, weavers, and other fashion industry professionals. Customers will be able to access it for free.
