You can now convert live-audio conversations to podcasts with the new Spotify Greenroom app
Spotify Greenroom was launched yesterday, June 16, 2021, by the Swedish audio streaming and media service provider.
In March 2021, the platform announced the acquisition of Betty Labs, the developer of the sports-focused app Locker Room, in order to accelerate its entry into the live audio market.
Spotify stated that it has been expanding the app's capabilities since acquiring it in order to enable deeper and more meaningful connections between creators and users.
Greenroom is a mobile application that enables Spotify users to participate in or host live audio rooms after logging in. Additionally, users and creators can turn their conversations into podcasts.
The new mobile application is a reimagining of the Locker Room mobile application. Current app users will notice an update to the app's branding, look, and feel to match Greenroom's.
Spotify intends to use its technology on Greenroom in the long term to connect users with content they may be interested in.
Also, it may recommend podcasts and music based on what you've consumed previously on the app.
Apart from the ability to podcast sessions, Greenroom shares many features with other live audio platforms such as Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces, and Facebook Live Audio Rooms.
Twitter Spaces will be available to the general public
Twitter Spaces will be available to the general public in March 2021. And, with the April launch of its Android version, it becme the first live audio platform to do so.
In comparison to Twitter's immediate Android availability, Clubhouse, which launched in March 2020, was initially available only on iPhones until May 2021, when an Android version was created. In May 2021, Facebook will begin testing live audio rooms.
Anyone with over 600 followers can host a space on Twitter Spaces, whereas Clubhouse and Greenroom do not require this.
Around 5,000 people can fit in a Clubhouse room. However, a Spotify Greenroom room can accommodate a maximum of 1,000 people. However, Spotify intends to expand the number of subscribers in the near future.
Spotify recently announced plans to expand to 41 African countries in February 2021, among other countries. The continent's wait for this, the company's largest move to date, has concluded.
Spotify estimates that it has 158 million subscribers as of March 2021.
This app is one of the streaming company's efforts to improve its global market share in the industry. Additionally, Spotify announced the Spotify Creator Fund, a revenue-sharing program for audio creators in the United States. Additionally, later this year, it will introduce new features such as programed content.
