Google Shopping Introduces Personalized ‘For You’ Product Feed

business .

Google Shopping is introducing a personalized feed that will display a stream of products tailored to users' interests. This feature, available on mobile and desktop, appears when users visit shopping.google.com. At the top of the page, a carousel will show products recently searched, allowing users to continue browsing where they left off. As users scroll, recommended products and in-line videos related to their interests will appear, based on recent searches and YouTube videos.

Users can customize the feed by using a “thumbs-down” button to avoid seeing similar items in the future. The setup draws comparisons to algorithm-driven “for you” pages seen on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Sean Scott, Google’s Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Shopping, described the new feature as a store personalized to users' current interests. Along with this update, a new personalized deals tab will offer products tailored to individual preferences. The feed and deals feature will only apply to users logged into their Google accounts.

In addition, Google is rolling out a new AI-powered feature for product searches. When users search for a product and navigate to the “Shopping” tab, they will see an AI-generated summary with tips on what to consider when purchasing. Beneath a “top recommendations” heading, Google will list products with explanations of why each is recommended. The search engine will also group results into specific categories, allowing users to explore more targeted product options.

Google is introducing a revamped shopping experience that will be made available to users in the U.S. over the next few weeks. This new update is designed to enhance how consumers shop by offering a more personalized and intuitive experience on both mobile and desktop platforms. When visiting shopping.google.com, users will see a personalized feed of products tailored to their interests and recent searches, similar to the “for you” feeds found on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

At the top of the page, a carousel will showcase products the user has recently browsed, allowing them to easily pick up where they left off. As users scroll down, they will see recommended products and related videos based on their shopping history and even YouTube activity. This AI-driven feature aims to simplify product discovery and offer suggestions that align with individual preferences.

Additionally, Google is rolling out a personalized deals tab that curates special offers and discounts tailored to users’ interests. However, these personalized features will only be available to users who are logged into their Google accounts.

Another significant enhancement is the introduction of AI-powered product summaries when searching within the "Shopping" tab. When users search for a product, they will now see a summary with tips on what to look for in that item, along with top recommendations and explanations for why those products stand out. Google’s algorithm pulls insights from a wide range of online reviews to create these summaries, helping users make more informed purchasing decisions.

Further down the results page, users will find categorized product suggestions such as “Electric gooseneck kettles for matcha,” offering a more organized and streamlined approach to shopping. Traditional product listings that Google Shopping previously displayed are still available but now appear at the bottom of the page, ensuring that users can explore options in greater detail if they wish.

This new personalized shopping experience, combined with AI-driven recommendations and a curated deals section, represents a major step in Google’s efforts to compete with other e-commerce platforms and meet the evolving expectations of online shoppers.
