Review: Anker Soundcore Boom 2 – Unleashing Sonic Power

business .

I've previously reviewed the outstanding Soundcore Boom Plus, which remains my primary choice for a portable Bluetooth speaker. Anker has now introduced an updated version of its smaller Boom speaker earlier this year. The new Boom 2 has undergone a redesign, resulting in a more compact form factor, but boasts significantly enhanced audio output, thanks to the incorporation of a new 50W Racetrack Subwoofer. Additionally, Anker has added some exciting features, including LED lighting that synchronizes with your music, adding a dynamic visual element to your listening experience.

Although I haven't reviewed the smaller Soundcore Boom, I'm a big fan of the Boom Plus. The Boom 2 technically matches the Boom Plus in loudness, reaching up to 80W. However, in my experience, the Boom Plus handles this power better, producing less distortion at higher volumes and offering superior bass quality that feels more balanced. But, as you can see from my pictures, there's a significant size difference between the two speakers. This makes the Boom 2 a more practical option, providing greater flexibility in terms of where and when you can use it. Despite any differences in sound performance, the Boom 2's compact size adds to its appeal for everyday use.

The updated design of the Soundcore Boom 2 features a more rectangular shape, departing from the curvier aesthetics of its predecessor. While it may not be the most visually striking speaker, especially when compared to models like the Motion X500/X600, the Boom 2 prioritizes functionality. It is constructed with durable, high-quality fabric and rubber materials that exude a premium feel. This not only enhances its durability but also provides a tactile experience that users appreciate.

Moreover, the Boom 2 boasts an IPX7 waterproof rating, meaning it can withstand submersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. This makes it an ideal companion for outdoor activities such as beach trips or pool parties, where exposure to water is inevitable. Additionally, the speaker is designed to float, alleviating concerns about accidental sinking if it falls into the water. The dimensions of the Soundcore Boom 2 have undergone significant changes compared to its predecessor. While the older speaker was wider and taller, the Boom 2 is higher, resulting in a reduced overall footprint.Despite its smaller size, the Boom 2 manages to pack a punch with its audio capabilities. It features a 50W Racetrack Subwoofer, a notable upgrade that allows the Boom 2 to deliver double the volume and significantly enhanced bass performance.

In addition to the audio improvements, the Boom 2 introduces updated subwoofer diaphragms on the sides of the speaker, now equipped with RGB lighting. This feature synchronizes with your music, adding a dynamic visual element to your listening experience.Like its predecessor, the Boom 2 is constructed with durable, high-quality fabric and rubber materials, providing a premium tactile feel. These materials not only enhance the speaker's durability but also contribute to its overall aesthetic appeal and user experience.

At the top of the Soundcore Boom 2, you'll find a convenient control panel equipped with various buttons for easy operation. These include buttons for power, Bluetooth pairing, volume control, and play/pause functions, providing intuitive control over your music playback experience.

Additionally, the control panel features a dedicated button to activate the BassUp 2.0 feature. This feature enhances the bass output, boosting it from 60W to an impressive 80W, delivering a more immersive audio experience.Moving to the back of the speaker, you'll find a USB-C port for charging the speaker itself, ensuring quick and efficient charging. Additionally, there's a USB-A port, allowing you to charge other devices using the speaker's built-in power bank functionality. This versatility adds to the convenience of the Soundcore Boom 2, making it a versatile companion for all your audio and charging needs on the go.

The Soundcore Boom 2 doubles as a power bank, enabling you to charge your smartphone or other devices while on the go.Charging the speaker itself is a breeze, facilitated by the included USB-C cable. With its large battery capacity, the Boom 2 typically takes around 4 hours to reach a full charge from empty, ensuring you spend less time tethered to a power source and more time enjoying your favorite tunes.
