What is the full form of IAS?

The full form of IAS is Indian Administration Services, and IAS officers hold the key to all government machinery in India. Because the civil service examination (CSE) involves such a huge amount of responsibility, only the brightest candidates are eligible to pass. What is IAS?

IAS Exam is the premier exam of India and also the toughest, IAS is the best All India Service to serve society. The youth of our country aspires to become an IAS officer at least once in their life, UPSC conducts a civil service examination (CSE) every year for all Indian services and various central civil services.

In addition to the already existing reservation categories, this year union public service commission added a new category of the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category with the objective of providing reservations to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates as mandated by the Government of India. The eligibility conditions for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates have not been changed and aligned with the eligibility conditions of general candidates, IAS is officially called the civil services examination (CSE). Which is organized every year by the central recruiting agency, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

 

How to get selected for the IAS exam?

IAS is not a service but a huge responsibility. The Indian Administration Services officer provides the right direction to all the efforts of all the stakeholders at more than one level. He acts as a leader in the district and inspires everyone to do good work. How to prepare for IAS Be it city or district, be it state government or government of India, IAS officers are posted at the top of every department. Every year, UPSC releases the notification for Civil Services Examination in the month of February, which includes advertisements for about 24 Central Civil Services along with Indian Administration Services.

In India IAS, IPS – Indian Police Service, and IFoS -Indian Forest Service are notified as All India Services. The rest of the services come under the Central civil services.

Every year around 6 lakh candidates fill out the form for the civil services exam but only 1000 candidates are finally selected. This means that the pass percentage is very less. Also, if the number of seats decreases, then the passing percentage will further decrease.

 

Eligibility Criteria for IAS Exam:

 

1. Nationality:

Citizens of Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan, along with Indian citizens, can apply for this exam, but for recruitment to IAS and IPS, the candidate must be a citizen of India.

 

2. Educational Qualification:

The educational qualification required for this exam is a graduate in any discipline. There is no minimum percentage requirement for graduation. The only essential condition is that the graduation degree should be from a government-recognized university. The exam is so designed that individuals from different backgrounds are placed on a level playing field. There is no advantage to those candidates who have better marks in degree courses only matters in Civil Services Exam.

Candidates who are in the final year of their graduation course can also apply with the condition that they will reproduce their graduation mark sheet at the time of verification.

 

3. Age Criteria

The minimum age of the candidate should be 21 years for this exam. Different upper age limits have been prescribed for different categories. 32 years for the general category, 35 years for OBC, and 37 years for SC and ST have been fixed. There is even more relaxation in the handicapped category.

Age will be reckoned from 1st August of the notification year.

Candidates who have been selected in IAS or IFS, have appeared in any previous examination, and continue to be a member of that service, cannot fill out the Civil Services Examination form again.

 

What is the age limit to become an IAS officer?

  • Talking about the age limit, the maximum age for general caste students, and candidates have been kept at 32 years.
  • The age limit for OBC candidates has been kept at a maximum of 35 years.
  • The maximum age for SC and ST has been kept at 37 years.
  • Maximum Age Limit for Physically Handicapped Candidates 42 Years for General
  • Maximum Age Limit for Physically Handicapped Candidates 45 Years for OBC
  • The maximum age limit for Physically Handicapped candidates is 47 years for SC/ ST.

Some important facts related to filling out the form:

While filling out the form, the candidate has to fill in all the basic information like name, father's name, mother's name, etc. The Civil Services Examination will also mark the center. A total of 72 cities are participating in this examination at the same time.

Another important thing is that the candidates must also choose an optional subject for the Civil Services Mains exam while filling out the form. The notification will select and mark one of the 26 optional subjects. During the completion of the application form, candidates must also indicate their preferred examination medium. They can appear in IAS Prelims Exam in Hindi as well as in English.
