FedEx App’s Test Will Be Able To Track Deliveries Made By Other Services

FedEx App’s test will be able to track deliveries made by other services

FedEx has been working on a new feature for its consumer mobile app that would allow it to compete more effectively with Shopify's popular Shop app, according to reports. One of the most compelling features of Shopify's Shop is its ability to track users' purchases and shipments across multiple services, including not only Shopify, but also Amazon and other deliveries made via FedEx, UPS, USPS, and other carriers, by importing delivery tracking information from users' email inboxes. Shopify's Shop does this by importing delivery tracking information from users' email inboxes. However, FedEx appears to be following a similar strategy with the introduction of a feature called "Crosstrack," which allows users to track their anticipated deliveries in a separate section from the tab that displays FedEx deliveries.

The feature was shared with TechCrunch by a developer, and it is currently in the development stage.

There are two tabs for the search and tracking screens in the mobile app: one for FedEx and another for Crosstrack. Crosstrack tab allows FedEx app users to see a photo of their incoming purchase, the sender's information (such as Target, eBay, or Wayfair), as well as the scheduled delivery date and tracking number alongside the tracking number in the FedEx app. You are notified by the app with green text and a checkmark when an item has been received.

FedEx's expanded functionality, in contrast to Shopify's Shop, does not include shopping or product recommendation features.

New Digital Experience

In a statement, the company confirmed that the feature was in the works.

"FedEx is constantly experimenting with new digital experience concepts in order to provide better service to our customers, which includes This is just one of the many things we've tried out with customers and found to be effective "FedEx's spokesperson provided additional information. In response to a request for additional information about the feature, the company declined to confirm that the term "Crosstrack" in this context refers to deliveries that are not made by FedEx. The app's tracking section has two tabs, only one of which is labeled "FedEx," and it's difficult to think of another reason for this arrangement. In response to our request for FedEx to correct this mischaracterization of "Crosstrack," the company declined to provide additional information about their statement.

When the above-mentioned development occurs, it will be significant because it will demonstrate the competitive pressure that Shopify is exerting on the broader industry. Because of the rise in popularity of e-commerce, which is partly due to consumer shifts brought about by the pandemic, the ability to track all packages in a single app has emerged as a key selling point for Shop. A notable 4.8-star rating across approximately 3 million reviews has propelled Shopify to the fourth position in the Shopping category, indicating strong consumer demand for this type of offering. Offering a similar feature to FedEx customers would be beneficial to both parties.

The fact that FedEx, like the vast majority of large corporations, tests a large number of new product experiences before releasing them to the general public should not be overlooked. In this particular case, we understand that the Crosstrack product is a "concept" that FedEx is currently testing, but that the company is not yet ready to publicly announce it as such.
