How do I change the Google Maps voice on an Android device?

As part of the Google bundle, which includes the Chrome, Play Store, and Google Assistant, Google Maps is pre-installed on Android devices by default. The Google Maps navigation app on an Android phone or tablet can be customized by changing the voice of the app both within the app and by reinstalling the app.

The first method is the simplest, whereas the second requires you to change the language settings on your phone, which is time-consuming and complicated. Learn how to change the voice of Google Maps on your Android phone or tablet by watching the video below.

Change the voice of Google Maps from within the app

You can customize the Google Maps voice by going to the app's settings:

1. Start Google Maps by tapping the app icon on your tablet or phone to bring it up.

2. Select the profile icon from the drop-down menu. It can be found in the upper-right corner of the screen on most computers.

3. Next, locate and select the "Settings" tab from the drop-down menu.

4. Once the "Settings" section has been opened, locate and select the "Navigation settings" tab from the drop-down menu.

5. In the Navigation Settings section, select the "Voice Selection" tab from the drop-down menu. The voice of Google Maps that is currently selected is indicated by a check mark.

6. A list of all available languages, as well as their regional variants, will be displayed on the screen. By tapping on the language button, you can select the desired language.

7. After that, press the "Back" button on your keyboard. This will take you back to the map.

8. Tap the "Go" button, which is located in the lower-right corner of the screen.

9. In the upper text box, type in your current position as a starting point.

10. In the lower text box, type the location you want to go to.

11. Press and hold the "Start" button for a few seconds. Google Maps will immediately begin navigating you to your destination using the voice and language you have selected in the previous step.

Reinstallion of the app

When Google Maps is installed, it makes use of the language preferences set on the device. As a result, rather than altering the app's voice through its in-app settings, you can uninstall the app and change the language settings on your phone or tablet. Let's wait and see how things turn out.

1. Remove the Google Maps application from your tablet or smartphone and restart your device. If you are unable to uninstall it by tapping and holding the icon, you will need to uninstall it through the Google Play Store instead.

2. Next, from the Home screen, open the "Settings" application.

3. Locate the "System" section by scrolling down. It should be tapped on the shoulder.

4. In the "System" section, select either the "Language" or the "Language & Input" tab, depending on which language and input method your device supports.

5. After that, click on the "Language" tab.

6. A drop-down menu will appear with a list of all available languages. You can choose which one you want to use by tapping on it.

7. To return to the main menu, press the "Home" button.

8. To access the Play Store, simply tap on the icon.

9. Locate the Google Maps application on your computer.

10. From the drop-down menu, choose "Install" or "Update."

11. In this case, the language settings for your newly installed Google Maps will be retrieved from the device's settings.
