How You Can Save Battery Life By Turning Off 5G On Android
5G is the newest feature that mobile networks are touting now, but it’s not available everywhere. If you are feeling like your Android phone is draining battery, searching for a non-existent 5G connection, it is possible that you may be able to turn it off.
We say “may” be able to turn it off because this situation is a bit of the Wild West situation. There doesn’t seem to be any means of standardization for how to do this ( that is if you are allowed to do it at all). Some manufacturers and carriers have either hidden the option or disabled it.
With this in mind, we’ll show you some of the methods that are commonly used to turn off 5G. The methods listed below for Google Pixel and Samsung phones should be similar to those used for other Android devices.
How To Turn Off 5G On A Google Pixel
On like the Samsung phones, carriers can change things on Google Pixel phones as well. For example, a 5G-equipped Pixel on the Google Fi can’t turn off 5G from the Settings. Other Pixels can, and it works like this.
1. First, open the Settings menu by swiping down from the top of the screen twice. From there, tap the gear icon.
2. Open the device settings
3. Next, select the “Network & Internet” button from the Settings menu.
4. Select network and internet
5. Choose “Mobile Network” (not the “+” button). Your carrier name will be listed here.
6. Select mobile network
7. Tap “Preferred Network Type.”
8. Preferred network type
9. Finally, select “LTE” from the pop-up menu.
10. Select LTE out of the options available.
Your Pixel will now choose the LTE over 5G. Whenever you’re ready to make use of your 5G again, you can go back to these settings and all you have to do is just to revert your choices.
How To Turn Off 5G On A Samsung Galaxy
Turning off 5G on a Samsung phone is very easy, but there’s a slim chance that you won’t be able to do it. In the U.S., at the time of the writing of this article, only the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy smartphones have the option. Other carriers have already removed it from their device operation.
1. To begin, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification shade, and then swipe down a second time to reveal the Quick Settings. Tap the gear icon and open the Settings menu.
2. Tap the gear icon to open settings
3. Next, select “Connections.”
4. Select connections
5. Now, go to “Mobile Networks.”
6. Select mobile networks
7. Last, select “Network Mode.”
8. Select network mode
9. Here is where you’ll see whether it’s possible to turn off 5G on your particular Samsung phone. If you can, “5G/LTE/3G/2G” will be selected. To turn off 5G, you’ll want to choose out of these “LTE/3G/2G.”
10. Choose the off 5G option
Your phone will now use those networks instead of 5G. Enjoy!
