How To Sync Tabs Between Different Browsers

How to Sync Tabs between Different Browsers.

How To Sync Tabs Between Different Browsers

Many of the web browsers allows you to sync tabs between devices. For example, the Chrome on the desktop syncs with Chrome on your phone, etc. But what about syncing between different browsers? This is a little harder to do, but the good news is that, it’s not impossible.

Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome all support syncing tabs across devices in their own various ways. However, it will not be helpful if you use Firefox at work and Chrome at home. They can't communicate to each other.

The Tab Session Manager

The “Tab Session Manager” is an open-source extension that works with either the Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. It permits you to sync open tabs and windows between the different browsers.

You'll see how it works here:

1. First, you’ll need to download the extension for Firefox, Chrome, or Edge. Install it on all the browsers that you are going to sync together. The setup process is going to be same on every browser.

2. Once the Tab Session Manager has been installed, open it from the extensions menu in your browser.

3. Open the extension

4. The Tab Session Manager window will open. To begin set up, Click the gear icon.

There’s a lot happening on the Settings page, but we’re not going to be messing with all of that.

5. First, give the device a name and check the “Save Device Name to Session” box. This will help identify where the tabs are from.

6. Next, make sure that you have checked the “Save the Session Regularly”. You can adjust how frequently you want the tabs to be synced and also adjust how many sessions will be stored at a time.

7. Sync frequency settings

8. You can also set it so that the tabs are synced even when you close a window or exit the browser. How much you have things synced is up to you and how you set it.

9. Sync when windows close and browser exits

10. The key ingredient to making this work between the different browsers is cloud sync. By signing in with your Google account, you allow sessions to be backed up to your Google Drive and you made it available on other browsers.

11. Click “Sign in with Google” to proceed.

12. Sign in with google

13. A message will pop up to inform you that Tab Session Manager is requesting permissions. Making use of this feature does require you to make some privacy sacrifices. Click “Allow” if you are good with it.

14. Allow permissions to proceed

15. The Google’s account sign-in window will open. Select your Google account and then proceed to enter your credentials.

16. Select a google account

17. During the sign-in, you’ll be asked to grant Tab Session Manager permission to view and to manage the data it creates in your Google Drive.  Just Click “Allow.”

18. Allow the extension to access its data in drive

19. That’s all you need to do to set up your  tab syncing. Repeat these steps in all the browsers that you want to access the tabs.

20. To use the Tab Session Manager, simply click the extension icon from the browser toolbar. You may need to click the sync button on the first launch.

21. Open extension and sync

22. Since each browser has been named, you can easily see where the tabs are from. The title of each session is the active tab. Click a session to view all of the tabs to the right.

That’s all there is to this. It is possible you may occasionally need to click the sync button to force an update, and it will ask you to sign back in to your Google after a while. This may not be as simple as a built-in method, but it works if you make use of multiple browsers.
