Bis hallmark registration shall be applied to the following:

1. Any basic product of any individual or entity that is not a trademark;
2. Any basic product sold by an individual or entity, with or without the use of the mark, which has been registered by Bis as a trademark;
3. A new trademark which is already registered in its place of origin, but has not been registered in its country of destination, as long as it has been used there for at least three months and its basic product has been sold there within one year prior to export;
4. The registration of a trademark in its country of origin, but not in its country of destination.

Documents Required for Bis-Registered Products

The following documents are required to be submitted to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for BIS Registration of a product as a BIS product. The documents must be in original and not photocopied.

1. Product specification, which describes the nature and characteristics of a particular product or service, including its quality control requirements.
2. Product drawing showing actual size and shape, with dimensions, components and finish specifications clearly shown on it. It should also show how it is attached to the packaging material.
3. Material composition table showing composition of each component used in manufacturing the finished product, including any additives used in processing or producing them. The chemical composition must be shown in percent by weight; otherwise a percentage value will have to be provided on request from BIS subject to verification as per BIS guidelines/guidelines/regulations governing BIS registration procedures etc.
4. Laboratory analysis report from designated laboratory with details on analytical methods used for testing purposes and their results (if available).
