Starship and Bolt Partner to Launch Cutting-Edge Robot Grocery Delivery Service
Starship Technologies and Bolt have officially introduced a groundbreaking food delivery service, marking a significant milestone in the partnership between these two Estonian-founded technology companies. The collaboration, unveiled in Tallinn, Estonia, is the first of its kind in Europe and is a key step in rolling out their joint commercial ventures that began last year.
By combining the technological strengths of Starship's autonomous delivery robots with Bolt's rapidly expanding delivery platform, this collaboration is poised to revolutionize the future of urban mobility. The new service offers customers an innovative, flexible, and environmentally sustainable "last-mile" delivery option, which alleviates the burden on human couriers by allowing them to focus on longer routes.
Starting today, over 180,000 residents in Tallinn can benefit from this new delivery option through the Bolt Food app. Initially, the service will operate from three Bolt Market stores in the city, offering a free robot delivery service during the launch period. This initiative aligns with both companies’ shared commitment to reducing the need for car trips to pick up groceries, thereby cutting down on local traffic and emissions while providing a fun, innovative, and convenient way to shop.
Starship Technologies is a global leader in autonomous delivery, with its robots having already completed over 7 million deliveries across the world and covered more than 8.5 million miles. Known for their efficiency, the robots are electrically powered, consuming as little energy per delivery as it takes to boil a kettle for one cup of tea. These robots have been safely operating at Level 4 autonomy since 2018, making 150,000 crossings globally each day, or about three every second. They are active in more than 100 locations worldwide, offering a reliable, green alternative to traditional delivery methods.
Ahti Heinla, Co-founder and CEO of Starship Technologies, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, stating that the collaboration with Bolt allows them to bring autonomous food delivery to even more customers in Tallinn. Heinla emphasized that the integration of Starship's robots into the Bolt Food app is not only about offering greater convenience but also about creating a sustainable, scalable last-mile delivery solution that reduces local traffic and emissions. He hailed the initiative as a forward-thinking step for both companies and a significant contribution to the development of greener urban spaces across Europe.
Jevgeni Kabanov, President of Bolt, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of bringing the innovative technology of Starship’s robots to Bolt Market’s grocery delivery service. Kabanov pointed out that the collaboration reflects the shared roots in Estonian innovation between the two companies and is a major enhancement to Bolt's delivery capabilities. He emphasized that this new delivery technology will provide more options for customers, offering them greater choice and convenience.
The official launch of the service took place at Bolt’s headquarters in Tallinn, signifying the beginning of a new era in food delivery, with both companies committed to shaping the future of urban mobility through their innovative technologies. The collaboration showcases how cutting-edge solutions can contribute to reducing carbon footprints and traffic congestion in cities, while enhancing the customer experience with faster, more flexible delivery options.
